Isidore

Much better, thanks Rod.

The worst hurricanes I experienced when I lived there were Betsy & Camille. Betsy whacked NO pretty good, but wasn't too bad where I was (about 50 miles north). But Camille....ooooohhhh, that was a bitch. It just annihilated the Miss. gulf coast and ran right over us too. I remember when the eye passed over thinking it was done, but we'd only been through half of it. We spent the night in the center part of the house to stay away from flying glass and I don't think anyone slept all night. All night long we could hear trees snapping like twigs all around us. I woke up expecting there to not be any trees left standing. There were 6 or 7 down in our yard and the power wasn't restored for 3 or 4 days - we ate a lot of grilled hamburgers! Amazingly the house survived just fine, but many others weren't so lucky. A few weeks later we drove through Gulfport and Biloxi and the devastation was incredible. There were houses that were completely missing. There would be steps leading up to....nothing. I saw pine needles sticking sideways from the trunks of palm trees and a big tanker ship all the way up on shore. I'll never forget that storm; at a young age it gave me a healthy respect for what mother nature can do.
