The NASCAR all-star race is on.

The action starts with the Open, where 28 guys duke it out. Only the winner advances to the big show. It's all-or-nothing so they will be driving very aggressively.

Once that race is over, the results of a fan vote are revealed. The highest vote getter who finished the Open on the lead lap will also advance to the All-Star Race.

There the two lucky drivers will battle the 20 stars that have already qualified (either through having won a race over the past year, being a past winner of the All Star race, or being a past champion) to race for $1 million.

The race is split up into three medium-length segments. There is an inversion at the end of the first segment where a random number from 4-10 drivers at the front will be inverted. There are also prizes for winning each segment.

Basically, they will be racing all-out under the lights. You'll see sparlks from the cars bottoming out, crashing, whatever.

At the end of it all..well who cares how it finishes, it's getting there that's fun to watch.

The Open is at 7. The All Star Challenge is at 9.

Forgot to mention, the winner of the Open HAS gone on to win it all. Michael Waltrip did it back in the 90s. Not sure who else since then.

Correction, Michael has won both events but not in the same year. Ryan Newman won the main event after transferring from the Open a few years ago.
