On this date in 1973 the last American combat troops left South Vietnam. After almost 16 years of US training, support and fighting it took only 31 days for the South Vietnamese army to fold leading to Operation Frequent Wind, the evacuation of Saigon and the end of US involvement except for the Mayaguez incident in May '75. What part of this just might sound familiar?

Edit: Crap, I must be getting old. The fall of Saigon didn't happen until US air support was stopped in due to the Paris Peace Accord in 1975. It did only take a month for South Vietnam to collapse but only after we stopped our air and materials support.

That is the part that is scary, I often think about the how they parallel each other.

It is interesting that the official party line is that there is no correlation or comparison to be made betweet 'Nam and what we have now.
