This is a really nice place, it's front area and humidor is open to the public, but the lounge and bar is members and their guests only.

If anyone's interested, I can get a couple in.

Just a thought...if La Unica is trying to market their product to a larger audience the why would La Unica do a tasting at a private club? If you know the people at Red Cloud (nice place by BTW!) maybe Red Cloud could do a nominal 1 day membership charge for tastings. This would give non members a chance to see the place and La Unica a wider audience.

haha red cloud as most other tobacco related businesses in CA it's all about profit.

Red Cloud hosts 1-3 events a month for members and invited guests only, they're also an authorized opus dealer thats in good with the fuente family, that may be why they chose Red Cloud. What other cigar stores are setup to host large functions? I'd like to know where I haven't been yet.

Seeing as how I'm going to be away from the computer for the rest of the day I guess the guestlist is now closed.

hmm...

well this one went down like the last few red cloud tastings, which IMO kinda sucks.

First, La Unica is doing this "tour" to release the new #600 cigar. You would think that at a tasting they would have the feature cigar, featured...

Also Red Cloud used to have freebies, you got at least one cigar FREE. The last few tastings they've had this buy 3 cigars get 2 free, that's not really free in the spirit of things and under the pretenses of what I signed up for.

But I did not become a member for a free cigar every now and then, but I just don't like being mislead.

The highlights of the evening were the funky reviews by some regular botl's at red cloud, I placed the taste of tobacco, but dirty dusty kinda toasty, in chimes the group, "Like a cigarette?"... exactly. And after leaving, we smelled more like a casino than our regular tolerable fine tobacco stench.

A nice DCM humidor was prized as was a couple boxes of La Unica's.

And seeing a grown man get giddy like a schoolboy as I handed him a gift bagged bottle of EOS port with a couple sticks hidden in the tissue paper.

All in all the event was typical, was hoping for a little something different as I knew the sticks probably wouldn't be all that great.

The maduro robusto I had didn't seem all that bad, but I was already a few drinks in by then, the wrapper portion reminded me of an Ancient Warrior, the filler/binder seemed similar to the other Unic's.
