As some of you know I go to Vegas 6-8 times a year to gamble and cut loose a little bit. Over the years I have made friends with quite a few bartenders and cocktail waitresses. So far this weekend I have talked to 3 different Vegas servers that all say our free drinks are going to be a thing of the past.

The confirmed hotels so far are The Mirage, Caesar's Palace and Wynn. My sources all said this is rolling out later this month. What sucks even more is The Mirage and Caesar's are part of huge chains which means 80-90% of the strip will likely do away with free drinks.

This totally blows!

I don't know... Its still April 1st for a few more hours..

Yep. This started about a year ago. When I was gambling they gave out a free drink coupon for every $10 spent. Vegas isn't what it used to be.

I'll be in Vegas in May 11-13th, staying at Caesars.

This is not good news!

The only reason I gambled was for the free drinks. I don't win any money and the free $6 beers felt like a nice consolation.

I have to wonder what this will do to their "mom and pop" business. Seems like they are forgetting who has the disposable income.

Seems that if you don't go to Pure and get bottle service they could give a s#!t about you.

Well....Vegas does a "make over" every so often....we'll see how long this lasts.

Booze isn't that expensive. A person dropping $40 or $50 an hour (or more) on the slots or tables isn't going to break the house with the amount of booze he/she drinks.

Go downtown and gamble, it's more fun.

Acclaym busted me in the first response in this thread. I was trying to punk you guys. The only thing that was true from my original post is what is quoted below. In my defense I was really bored.

PS-I tried to post the smiley with the tongue sticking out but none of the special features seem to work for me. Maybe I've been 1/2 banned for my prank?

That's a good thing. I was about to donate my liver to science, now I get to keep the experiment going.

....hmm, maybe not as fictional as you think:

http://www.lasvegass...esorts-spirits/

In years past a gambler could drink for free all night, but some now complain that cocktail servers don’t make the rounds on the casino floor as frequently as they used to — which is not surprising given casinos are operating with fewer cocktail servers.
So if you’re a thirsty casino customer, “the first drink might be comped but the next drink you’re paying for,” says Clyde Burney, vice president of beer distribution for Southern Wine & Spirits.

People complaining about slow drink service has been going on since I can remember. Usually the ones that complain the most aren't the most generous tippers. I rarely have a problem after getting the first drink.

Las Vegas started morphing away from being a gambling destination when Steve Wynn built the Mirage, maybe even before then. Most of the so called Vegas experts thought the Mirage would fold within a few months of opening due to huge overhead. All it did was open the eyes of casino executives everywhere that money could be made in every square inch of their properties, not just in the casino.

Right now night clubs seem to be the big profit center which is running off the older high rolling gambling set due to the noise and atmosphere transformation.

The way things are going I wouldn't be surprised if the free drinks for gamblers thing really does become a thing of the past.

I've never had a problem with free drinks, but I make sure to tip generously. Seems to really open that door.....

I usually tip $2 per drink, and she always comes back quick. :)

For the record I was referring to the article you posted. I wasn't saying anything about your tipping style or habits. ;)
