Here is the last Tatto I did on a guy. It came out pretty good. This is a pic of it after it healed. This guy wants me to Tat his whole leg.

heh heh heh...I got some bad ink from a "Hobby Artist". We should start a Bad Ink thread.

It takes some real balls to sport a bad tat.

Maybe someone in this thread can explain to me: what possesses somebody to get a tattoo? Especially the ones that are as "dark" as the one above? I am not downing the whole trend, or the tattoo pictured, I just don't get it. And I genuinely want to understand.

Why would anybody do that?

JK

I wont even do a Tat unless it's something I like and I know I can do a good job on. If it wont be fun to do I wont even bother doing it. I like doing skulls and evil **** on guys and flowers on girls.

I don't know man. Some people get them to remember a certain time or event in thier life. Some people get them just to be cool. I think most get them to display a certain type of lifestyle that they live or imagine that they live.

I got mine because of the lifestyle I led. I guess you could call me a "Biker" type. But as I am getting older I am getting away from those type of people. I usually only hang around "Normal" people now. Some people would say that I really don't fit in with my new crowd. Working in the Harley Davidson field and really getting to know the "Biker" mentality has kind of turned me a way. My old boss saw a picture of me with my "Normal" friends and said that I looked like I was just there bugging them for a dollar. I no longer work on Harleys and I am clean and sober. Many of my clean and sober friends have talked me into doing tattoos on them. Although they are not part of my "Normal" crowd.

If I had the whole tattoo thing to do all over again I probably would not do it. But I just can't bring myself to cut my hair. And I will never stop riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles!

The next time I'm out that way visiting my mother I have some "canvas" for you to practice your hobby on. :p I have a few tattoos. I have wanted to get more work done for years, but at $100.00 or more an hour I can never seam to fit it into the budget. My wife has a few she would like to get touched up also.

I didn't say I gave "bad ink".
I just lost interest collecting them and doing them.

Though I am not a tattoo artist, many of my designs have become tattoos or been designed specifically as tattoos. At present six people have a total of 9 tattoos that I have designed over the last three years. Mostly I do knotwork or tribal art. I have also made many Chinese character pieces (I only count one as my "artwork, since he used my caligraphy specifically). I get alot of these requests because I speak, read and write the languages.

I find it hilarous when people have Chinese character tattoos and they don't mean what they think they do. My favorite was this Marine I saw in the gym. After looking at his arm off-and-on for a half hour, curiosity got the better of me and I had to ask, "Why do you have 'bird' tattooed on your arm?" He was outraged and insisted that the chinese character said "Cowboy." It did not. My best guess is that he asked for Cowboy, they meant to give him horse (cowboy in chinese is "horse man") and he accidentally got bird instead. Here is what the 2 characters look like (easy for people to confuse....)

I laughed, to which he got more angry (which I found even funnier) and in the end he refused to believe me, but oh well. I tried.

-K-

PS: Maybe I'll try to get some of my stuff posted.....

I would not get a tatto as "dark-side" as the one pictured, but the two I have mean something special. Here's the one I designed on my PC and had inked for my 40th b-day:

The letters are for my wife, Juanita, and my 3 sons, Steven, Aaron and Taylor.

As for an explanation on why I was possessed to do this, that's difficult to express in words. The best I can say is this: I wanted a way of showing my family the level of my committment and feelings for them. A tattoo is a permanent commitment that is there for the duration of your natural life. Tattoos also involve a high degree of pain which, for me, expressed my willingness to endure hardship for them.

Others use tats for other reasons: "rights of passage", a way to rebel (against society or family), show cameraderie (military), cultural significance, etc. If you ask ten people why they got tattoos, you'd probably receive 7 - 8 different answers. Some might be identical, but most probably would not.

Steve is right...anyone who thinks Tattoo is just ink on your flesh does not get it.

and furthermore..if anyone tells you they do not hurt...THEY ARE LYING!!!

PS - The tattoo thing I fully understand, although I don't have one and I'm not dogging RobK with his post, even though I copied it... I truly need to know...

I have friends of mine that are "Normal" who live, breath, eat, sleep Harley Davidson. One of my friends ONLY wears Harley Davidson clothes - and his girlfriend hates his wardrobe... I can't see inviting this guy to a dress up social event - he'd go nuts!!!

The reason I ask is because these same "normal" friends want me to purchase a HD to ride with them. The problem I have is if it is as addicting as I've seen, it will destroy me if I walk down that path... These guys drive me nuts with their constant tweaking, upgrading, trading, buying, etc... Kinda like the cigar thing... Is there any way to have a Harley Davidson without getting hugely obsessed?

Sorry, Jim - I thought it was RobK that put that post up there initially - and there is no more EDIT button, damn it!!!

I've thought long and hard about whether there is anything important and enduring enough to tattoo myself with, and the only thing I have come up with so far, and this is just recently after first thinking about it over 10 years ago, is to get my blood type tattooed on my somewhere incase I gat in an accident or something.
