Lighting Cigars

Don't use a cigarette lighter. The best way to light a cigar is with wooden matches. Light the match and allow all the sulfur to burn off, then light your cigar.
 
Man, I can't imagine using anything but a torch. Just torch the sucker and smoke it! Now, for better cigars, I take greater care. I first gently heat the foot for about 15 seconds, and then light it up. I just don't have the patience fooling around with wooden matches or other such things (but that's just me). For most of your smokes, I believe a torch lighter will do the trick! Look on eBay or cigarbid for many options.

In fact, if your interested, I've got an extra colibri torch lighter that I don't really use that much - if you want I would be willing to trade you it for a few smokes. It's not a real expensive Colibri lighter, but is of fine quality and works great (I've only used it for 2 weeks - got it as a gift). After owning many torch lighters, Colibri, in my opinion is the way to go.
 
benjamin, my dear boy - these questions about cutting cigars , storing in your humidor (Benjie asks about humidors), lighting cigars (Benji asks about lighting cigars) have all been answered for you. I don't understand why you keep this up...

Please don't ask the others here about cigar smoking hurting your throat (Benji's having throat pain...) or being bad for you (Benjie wants to know if cigars are bad for him)...

You'll find some great people here, but they have far less patience for the kind of stuff you were posting at the other place... Please just participate in discusions, read a lot - (there's quite a bit of great information here - use the "search" function), and otherwise just let us get to know you. And PLEASE - don't keep posting the same questions over and over again...

Actually the best way to light a cigar is with a giant butane lighter that's in the shape of a matchstick.
 
What gg said - I'll just add one thing, don't be afraid to bump up an older thread to continue a discussion. There's tons of threads with all these questions, and people would rather see you bump an older thread than create a new one with the most popular questions that every purebred newbie will have (I know, I found them myself when I started ;) ).
 
Just depends (undergarments?). Sitting in the den, lighting a good smoke, I use wooden matches. Most of the time...playing golf or watching the game or whatever, I use the Colibri my wife gifted me. erm, standing in the river, trying to catch a trout, lighting a semi-rocket, I use the el cheapo three flame throwing fuel guzzling torch I picked up at the local shop for $10...GREAT windproof (important, mind you, standing in the middle of a river), and not anything to worry about should i drop it or something..
 
Butane lighters have pretty much been shown not to impart and weird tastes into your cigar. A cheap Bic will work just fine...i prefer a torch though as its stupid easy to get a good, even light that way. I know alot shun at the use of zippos...ive used them in a pinch and not noticed any funky flavors.
 
I always use a lighter, preferably a butane lighter from Colibri. I prefer the soft flame versus the jet flame as I find the jet flame heats the foot too much, can cause splitting to occur, and just gives off the nastiest gnarliest taste for the first couple of puffs. If done right, the soft flame will toast the foot perfectly and create copious amounts of creamy cool smoke to enjoy.
