If you use the subscription feature (that means when you subscribe to a topic/forum, CP will email you when someone posts to that topic or forum) then please limit the number of topics you subscribe to. We're a large site, therefore, many people post in the forum. There's too many users who are subscribing to way too many topics. Imagine how many emails CP sends out every day to update you on topics. In just four hours we have sent out over 1,000 emails! This puts a tremendous load on the server. Please edit your subscriptions now and limit the number of subscriptions you do in the future. There's no point in subscribing to every thread. If this feature continues to be abused, we will disable it.

Thank you,
Rod

I used it a long time ago... you get a notification everytime a reply is posted in the thread. You get swamped real fast. Besides, I'm not that interested in what you clowns have to say anyways. :p

I cleared out ALL subscriptions. This is most likely what was causing the server to hang often.

YEA!!!!

No offence, but I too think they are pointless as ever.

Thanks Rod,

Well it didn't work. The server was just hanging again five minutes ago.

In the meantime, I'm gonna go subscribe to some threads!!

Must be your ISP. It's been working fast on my end.

Would turning off PM e-mail notification also help with the server-load Rod?

No, we had 8000 live subscriptions. PM notifications are not going to degrade performance. I cleared out all subscriptions so we should be fine now. Since I've cleared the subscription table, everything has been running smoothly.

Hello all,

Just a comment/suggestion as to a possible compromise on the subscriptions. I use this feature and found it useful.

Other sites send only one email when a new reply or thread is posted within a subscription. Another email will not be sent till that user visits the thread... I'm guessing that would greatly reduce the email traffic and still allow users to be informed of activity on a topic of interest.

Just my 2 cents.
