My wife and I were looking for a quick/inexpensive getaway and have settled on Louisville in mid April. I was wondering what are some must see things in/around Louisville. We are planning on visiting the Ali Center, Louisville Slugger museum, and Churchill Downs. Are there any other things to see/do? What is the best distillery to tour? Are there any good breweries/brew pubs? And finally, what about good resturants and music (Jazz) clubs? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

My preference on tours is the Woodford Reserve tour. If your are in Louisville downtown area and looking for a drink Check out Fourth Street Live it will be the closest to ya,,,, a little main stream. For things going on the local magazine is called Velocity don't know the website. You can pretty much smoke in all the bars but no restaurants... Hmmm It really depends on what kinda of night life you are looking for... If you can be a little more specific then I can point ya in that direction... Try to come during Thunder over Louisville if you are coming during April.... I think it is close to the 25th great air show and fireworks display over the river...

Lemme know a little more about what you like..

Just to add to shooter, the Maker's Mark tour is a good one too. Take a drive to Bardstown if distilleries interest you. May want to drive down to Mammoth cave for a day it's about an hour and a half south. Like shooter says, The Derby is May 6th, Thunder is two weeks prior (April 22) and during that 2 weeks there is a ton of stuff going on. Not sure about the good Jazz, will ask some friends.

Thanks guys! We are going the 17th - 21st. Looks like we are just missing the good stuff! :(

Okay now I have some time....

Depending on how much you are looking to spend on dinners... Vincenzo's is one of the best Italian joints in town and pricey... We also have a Morton's and a Ruths Cris... If your looking for High Dollar type dinners...

For seafood there is a nice place Captain's Quarter's right on the river... medium priced...

Your best bet would be checking out the Velocity magazine for references..

As far as piano music and jazz..... We have the Jazz Factory, but it is non smoking... If you are looking for a good time with pianos check out Howl at the Moon.... its a dueling piano bar... Good times, and my wife manages the joint... If you like blues I would recommed Stevie Ray's blues bar its always a good time with live blues.

As far as tours Makers and Woodford would be my top tours... but there are many to choose from... I am partial to Woodford cause my wife was the Woodford Ambassador for Virgina until we moved here.... hehe

There is also the Maker's Mark bourbon and cigar bar, kinda mainstream and the cigars are marked up 100% so bring your own. But they do have a nice selection of bourbon...

Well if I think of anything else I will let ya know...
