Hellbent for Glory-land
OK, we're all familiar with them. Those weird little chewy, sweet, radioactive-red "cherries" that top off a Manhattan. My question is this: Does anyone know of a maraschino cherry that is more of an, and I hate to use this term, "artisan"-type? One that is not soaked in corn syrup and Red #5 or whatever they use now? If not, how about a substitute? I've seen German morello cherries at Trader Joe's that look promising.
It just seems like my Manhattans should be garnished with something a little more stylish. Especially if it's not made with rotgut.

Edited to add: Found a history and recipe if anyone is interested. Still no luck on something I can just buy outright though.
