Just thought I'd share the 5 new additions to my Mac collection. Took quite a bit of hunting for the Gran Reserva.

1) Older bottle 12 year. (Not sure of vintage)
2) Gran Reserva 1979
3) Gran Reserva 1980
4) 25 year Anniversary (1972)
5) 18 year 1980

Wow... Very impressive.

Thanks for the pics, I love looking at vintage bottles like that.

Nice! I'd hate to know what the 2 bottles of Grand Reserva and Anniversary Malt set you back. :0

You'd be surprised the deals you can find when willing to take a little shipping risk. I bought the Reservas from Italy and the other three from the East Coast. 25 and 79 Both came with original boxes.

Your a bad man, I have little to no impulse control and those GR's are looking tasty. Christmas might come early this year if I can find a reasonable price.

You gotta be really careful with bottles coming out of Italy. Macallan itself bought Italian fakes and not on purpose either.

I hear ya. One can only do so much when it comes to DD on bottles. I had closeups sent of the labels and boxes and am lucky I have legit bottles to compare them to and they are spot on. Of course what's inside is what counts and yes, it can be any Mac variant if it's a great fake.

Actually was speaking to the Macallan Ambassador at a Mac dinner two weeks ago and he told me the Macallan distillery it's self had bought a huge collection of vintage mac several years ago for several million dollars. They had their experts actually draw small amounts of select bottles through syringes for detailed tests. When their tasting expert said one bottle was "off" they destroyed the entire collection. Could be a legit story or just a fable to pump up Macs reputation for quality. Either way...anyone can be duped on these older bottles.

A bit of info from Macallan itself:

Genuine Fine & Rare vintage Macallan will always have a unique reference number on the back label, together with a signature, as well as a code number on the inside of the front label (visible by looking through the bottle from the back). I hope this helps !

Kind regards,
David Cox, Director, Fine & Rare malt whiskies.'

Yes, those markings are for the "fine and rare" collection only and I only have one of those bottles (my 52 year old 1949). If you bought that entire collection set 4 years ago for $140k it is now worth over half a million. Not bad. Actually the only place in the world that has the collection to taste by the glass ( or ounce) is the Borgatta hotel & casino in Atlantic City. Tastings there range from $80 to $3,500 per ounce. I little trivia for you Mac fans :)

Yes, I have seen that and similar articles before. These forgeries they speak of are mostly "antique" bottles which are much older and worth much more than your average anniversary 25 or Gran Reserva but there is always a risk non the less. Almost all of my rare and antique bottles are purchased through the Macallan U.S. Ambassador which is a good friend of mine. Great friend to have :)
