Hello,

Glad to have found this forum. I'm fairly new to cigars. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I got into "smoking" a short while back with hookah. For some reason, I started messing around with cheap pipes and now cigars.

I'm finding that I really like cigars, or at least some that I've bought and smoked. I haven't done much with the inhaling, but have found some cigars to pack a real "punch" anyway. One such cigar was a Padron I recently bought. It was a dark leaf very strong and peppery type cigar. This one, like others I've smoked did burn the heck out of my nose if I tried to smell the smoke. However, I still liked the smoke just puffing it straight out.

I haven't gotten one of those slicing tools, and have been using scissors, knives, etc. to cut the mouth end of the cigar. So, I guess I need some good beginner tips. Right now, my budget isn't very high but I'd like to get some similar brand names and other values considering I like the Padron. I think it was a Padron 3000 or something like that. I also bought a pack of these Padron mini cigars. I liked those too, but not as much as the other one. I've heard Cohiba and Rocky Patel are also good. Thanks much for any tips, and what to do about that nose burn?

The next time you're at the place where you bought your cigars, ask them for a cutter. You can get a cheap one for under $5. You really want to stay away from the scissors and knives when clipping your cigar. As far as the nose burn, just don't try to smell the smoke right as you've exhaled...the smell will still be there. With the cigar recommendations, just go to the cigar store and grab a few different ones that look appealing to you Everyone has different tastes in cigars, so it's hard to tell someone what to get. The Padron line is an excellent start.

That was a nice first post, but there's an introduction forum where you can tell us a little about yourself and some of the guys will greet you. This will also let you know (or us) if there's anyone in your proximity so if you were to ever want to get together with someone to smoke, you can. Enjoy your stay.

I don't inhale or exhale through the nose, so I can't help with that bit. You cut the "head" of the cigar and light the foot, just to bring you into the cigar lingo, btw. :)

Since you liked the Padron, you may want to sample some other Nicaraguan cigars. Even though they're all from the same country, they have a variety of flavors. Illusione are one of my favorite and have a distinct taste and aroma that's more floral (to me, at least). Tatuaje and La Aroma de Cuba (new blend with red ribbon on foot) are two other fantastic blends. Cabaiguan Guapo, La Riqueza, Cruzado, La Flor Dominicana Air Bender, Ashton VSG, Alec Bradley Prensado, Drew Estates Liga Privada #9, Rocky Patel Brothers, CAO LX2 are all fine smokes, too, if you can find them (not all of those are Nicaraguan smokes).

Check out the Newbie Sampler thread, too. You can get a great selection of smokes to get you started in your new addiction. :)

Welcome to CP.

One of our member's named "AVB" has a link in his profile, "cigar info you can use", or some such.
Ususally in his sig line area of his post's. Has a great deal of terminology that will help you search out answers
to questions as they arise.

I would second the Newbie trading thread. Tell them what you like and they will do wonders to your mailbox.

x3 on the Newbie Sampler. I did it twice when I first joined and it was a great investment. Simple and flexible also.
