Just got a call on my cell claiming to be my bank, and having had an issue with my debit card. Asked for last four of my social and my card number. It was my bank, it sounded official, it wasn't. I called to double check, and had my suspicions confirmed.

Just a reminder of what I forgot, Don't give your info to a computer unless you instigated the call.

Got a text from Bank Of America asking me to call them to confirm my info, saying they'd just deactivated my debt card.

Only problem is....I don't have a BOA debt card..... :whistling: Called BOA and sure enough, there's some heavy duty fishing going on in my area.

Eyes open out there, folks.....

I work for a major cell phone carrier. We get calls about this all the time. It unfortunately isn't limited to just the banking industry. It's very widespread. There may be times where your bank, cell phone company, or other business may need to contact you to discuss your account. During these calls you may be asked to confirm the last 4 of your social. Don't ever feel obligated to do so. If it is them you can always contact them directly. The company that just called you should always have notes on your account stating that you will call them back at a later time. Too much identity theft going on out there...better safe than sorry.

any one miss the good old days when we just hoarded all our money in coffee cans and the mattress?

Tim

I always get their information...then call the number on the back of my card - or the one on the main website for whatever company I'm dealing with.

Tough one.

You can also get an 'account' code or some such thing, so you don't have to give out your soc#.

Lots of fishing going on lately. Phone, mail and email. I recently had my email hacked and I'm still not sure how that happened.

Yeah I got hit with the same thing three times in a row a few months ago. I knew it was wrong because I got the calls on my cell phone and I still use my land line for all of my banks and credit cards. One was Citibank which I have had since high school and when I called them to confirm it was false and report the scam they weren't all that interested. Just said that they would never call me and ask for my SSN and told me to be careful.
