I guess I am missing out.

I have always kept my liquor drinks when having a cigar to rum, brandy and congac. Particularly I love having a Korbel Brandy with Vanilla Coke while I sit outside on these past few warm weekend evenings.

Ok.. someone convince me what Im doing wrong not drinking Scotch.. :sign:

Or is this whole area AVB's attempt to convert everybody into Scotch drinkers and somehow take over the world. :D

Trust me, AVB had nothing with my conversion LOL
In fact I was born into it, there WAS no conversion...guess that means for my next review its about time I did the family single malt :)

Yes, definitely, being half Scottish and growing up with a grandfather (amongst other family members from the Isle) who was steadfast in, predominantly: his consumption of dunhill pipe tobacco, scotch, devotion to his wife, devotion to the Catholic Church, support of Rangers FC and Scottish independence (not necessarily in that order) - there was no conversion at the hands of anyone. Nae, I was instilled with this love since birth, coupled with a love of the thing(s) which brought us to this site in the first place, courtesy of my father's side (i.e., the Las Villas, Cuba - another Isle famished for "independence" - side of my family).

So...to simplify a verbose response to your query...no, no conversion here either. ;)

It is not a secret plot to convert everyone, it is a plan for your survival. Convert or DIE! :0 (Mike Myers voice on) If it isn't Scotch it's crap!

Variety is welcome if you want to do some cognac reviews. If you look at the older posts you'll see some Rum threads too. The main difference is that there are few who collect Rum, Brandy or Cognac (or vanilla coke for that matter - ugh!) and many that collect Scotch and Bourbon. I just have a bigger pool of items to review with 55 on hand and another 400+ available.

I'm starting to REALLY like Cognac thanks to Toaster's Louis XIII gift in his pass :p

I have a bottle of Remy XO for special occasions and a bottle of Remy VSOP for more regular drinking. Last time I was at the casino, I splurged for a shot of Remy Extra Perfection ($60.00 :0 :0 :0 ) which I only did because I had the credits on my comp card.

Louis XIII is too much money BUT there is a big liquor discounter who sells Extra Perfection on the net for $339.00 BUT they will only sell it to a California address. Looks like I may be calling upon Phil to help me out here :D

I would recommend that ANYONE who is looking for any high end booze to check first with AVB as he is DA MAN, he can find you the best prices around

I got hooked on the single malts when I attended the Big Smoke here in Vegas a couple of years ago. Got to sample the 15 y.o. Laphroig, got home and told my wife about it. She got a bottle for me for Christmas the next month, mmmmm.

Gregor, you should check out the Laphoraig 30 year. It's definitely harder to come by, and, when found, (these days) ranges anywhere from $225-$350 (depending on how dedicated you are in to searching out the best prices). But, by all means, the 15 year is exquisite. It's amazing what 5 additional years of aging can do (i.e., as it compares to the 10 year). But, to disclose my bias, I am a stalwart lover of Laphoraig in any of its forms.

There is a place about 30 miles away that has the 30 year old Laphroaig (without the tube) for $180 out the door. If you are in the southern PA, MD or DC area it might be worth the drive. See the thread here.

A little bit of a road trip from Vegas, it is on my list. Did you guys see the 40 y.o. they released in auction?

The 40 year old is for sale - not auction - at their website. It's running 378 pounds (at "friends" price) and 420 pounds standard. That's $667 and $742 respectively. Speaking of which, it is very worth it to become a "Friend" of the distillery. :)

Kelt XO goes great with a cigar. Brother Devin turned me onto the Kelt. Very nice!

Have not had Kelt XO yet but the Tour Du Monde is a fine VSOP.
Love the Camus XO and tried the Hennesy XO (SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH)
Hardy has some tasty champagne cognacs but have not had the XO yet. and Frapin makes some wonderful liquid that I love to watch swirling in a glass :D

I'm still fine with Bourbons and trying to taste some scotches but I have a thing against sipping on peat moss. ;)

MC, my wife sent out a postcard to sign me up for the friend program after last November's Big Smoke where I picked it up. Still haven't heard anything on the "friend" subject yet. Guess I need to buy another bottle to get the UPC and do it online.

All you need to do is look at my wish under my avatar. It says it all! My last bottle ran out years ago. But it was heaven!
