I found a house I like and am contemplating putting an offer on it. The only thing I am unsure about is the oil heat. I have never had it and don't know anyone who does to ask their opinion. Can anyone give me an idea if this is a good idea or not? Thanks

Used to rent a house with oil heat, i talked the landlord into installing a natural gas oven insert in the oil furnace housing. Turned out saving me mucho bucks, but that was a lonnngggg time ago. Check into the money differences between the two fuel tosee if it's worth it. Oil is a bit dirtier then natural gas. Good luck!

Oil heat is what pretty much everyone around me uses. Oil got so damn expensive last year that some people started heating with wood. Our other options are propane and electricity which cost more than oil so oil is the way to go.

I have oil in the past. Have electric heat in my house. Put in natural gas a couple of years ago kept the electric in. Last year with gas prices so high, I actually found it cheaper to heat with electric. The reason being that each room has its own thermostat. We were able to save money by turning down the heat in all the rooms and only turning on the heat in the room we were in. Electric heat heats the room quickly. I think the most important thing is the insulatiion, windows and doors. If they're all good that is where the savings are. Good luck!
