On this day in 1959, Western TV series Rawhide premiered, co-starring Clint Eastwood as a cattle-driving cowboy. The show was one of 30 western series on in the 1959-60 TV season. The number of western series had steadily risen since the debut of Gunsmoke in 1955. The number then slowly declined, and by the time Rawhide was cancelled in 1966, only a handful of westerns remained on prime-time TV.

Then there is the version Billy Crystal sang in City Slickers "Rollin, rollin, rollin Gosh my butt is swollen" I've never forgotten that so I always think of that line when I think of the song.
 
Greetings! Speaking of television westerns, I remember that back in the 1950's and 1960's, Warner Brothers Television produced many westerns that were shown during prime-time on the ABC Television Network. These western series included "Maverick", "Cheyenne", "Sugarfoot", "Bronco", "The Alaskans", "The Dakotas", and many others. Yes, television westerns were very popular back then! They didn't use that song in Broke Back Mountain Movie too did they???
