Approximately 160,000 American, British, Canadian, and French soldiers and nearly 200,000 Allied sailors took part in the invasion of Normandy--the largest single-day amphibious landing in history. Of these, ~7,500 were wounded and ~2,500 paid the ultimate price. Lest we forget the sacrifice of these fine men.

My Father was there as a Navy medic on one of the ships and never spoke about it to my brothers and I...ever. The only stories we heard were from my uncle who was there as well and he was quite tight lipped about it too.

All my Dad would say, when we asked, is that it was a time in their lives they don't really want to think about anymore....they did what they had to do and now let it rest. As we got older and understood, we never asked him again.
