one of my favorite weekends of the year...

We are having our 6th annual party this year. Usually have 30+ people from 4:00 p.m. to around 2:00 a.m. - Always a good time. Now if I could just pick the winner. Maybe "Any given Saturday" - If anyone has any good inside info, please share.
 
I'll be watching. When I lived in Indiana we went down a time or two, but I'm too far away now.

The race is always around my birthday, so it was always a good reason to get really sloppy and have a lot of fun.

Strange, I've never put money down. Maybe next year...
 
We start partying around noon and go 'til about midnight or so. Depends on how much we drink. Race day starts early on Derby day. I think the first race is at 11am where, normally, it's 1pm.

I went to the Derby a number of times during HS and college, but it's too crazy. I want to go back when I have a ticket and can wear a suit.

If any of you ever get a chance, you should come down for Thunder Over Louisville. It's the kick-off to the Derby Festival; an air show that starts about 2pm with the largest fireworks show in North America at 9:30pm. It lasts about 30 minutes and they blow up over 50,000 fireworks. It's pretty sweet.
 
I'm reminded of one of my favorite Derby stories....

Several years ago, a friend of mine had a bunch of his buddies down for a golf weekend. These guys were all pretty hard core drinkers. By the time I got to the course Sat morning, they'd had already had a few. By the end of the round, they were pretty looped. Afterwards, we headed over to Hooters to watch the race. Someone says hey, everybody throw in $5 and we'll draw pool numbers. There was a pretty big field that year, something like 18 horses. I drew a number and looked at the odds. My horse was a 20:1 longshot. Oh well.

Believe it or not though, the sumbitch hit. I made close to $100. Well of course, I had to buy a round or three. Before it was all said and done, I was probably out another $100 but what a day. I'm surprised these guys didn't get busted for PI. One guy passed out on a bench outside and two others were sleeping in cars. What a sight.

Oh to be young again. :)
