opus x question

I have heard such great things about these cigars; however, they seem difficult to find. Is there just a regular Opus X or is all subcategories like lost city, colorado, etc... Where do you buy these?

As a side note, I tried a regular Punch cigar at my B&M and was not impressed. Very one dimensional and not a lot of flavor. Does this sound right with your experiences?
 
First question: They are great. They are not difficult to find and All comes to those that have patience and involve themselves in the community.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from big name cuban brands that are sold in shops ie: Cohiba, Punch, Romeo y Julieta or Trinidad etc etc... Start with Padron, Fuente, E.P. Carillo, Quesada, Don Pepin Garcia. Keep in mind, at the end of the day the most important thing is for you to smoke what you like, but we can help you avoid some of the really bad ones.

Currently I have been enjoying just about everything from Quesada, especially the Oktoberfest line.

Can you point me to a retailer that has them in stock? The places I frequent online do not have them.

Also, is there just a regular opus x, or is it just the subcategories of the brand. Basically, I don't know which one to start with.
 
I would suggest to be patient for the opus x. There are some in the for sale section periodically at a normal price. If not the retailers I found either dont have them in stock or well twice-triple the price they should be sold..
 
I have to second the Quesada Oktoberfest. I can't place exactly what it is I like about those so much but I'm down to my last one from a fiver, and from the first one OTT (or, Off The Airplane, as it were...) to the most recent one I smoked with about a year in the humidor, I just don't want this particular cigar to end. I need to go ahead and buy a box.

I have not had a CC Punch, but I've smoked several NC Punch Champions, and I've been underwhelmed. I like some pepper and spice in my smoke, but this is nearly overpowering and not very enjoyable. I know that it is not the same cigar at all, but it's all I can offer as far as Punch goes... :D

Definitely check out the Padron X000 lines if you haven't already. It took me a few times to really understand the beauty of these and why everyone likes them so much, but the mythical Padron Panatela has become one of my favorite cigars, period. Well, it would be if it existed. But it doesn't. Just ask Doc.

*EDIT* If it's any consolation, I have never seen an actual Opus X in person, either. I've been to several B&M's over here, but they mostly stock CC's. I think I might pay out the pretty penny if I came across one in a shop, but I haven't had the cojones to actually pull the trigger to buy some online.
 
Forgot to add the comment for the Punch. I also smoked a NC punch and bfeeder nailed it IMO stay away from the NC's that copy the name of CC brands
 
I also noticed that the OP was from IL so if you can make the drive down to Countryside, there's a shop called Casa de Montecristo that sells Opus X, but be prepared to pay the price$$$.
 
I used to order the Opus X cigars from Old Virginia Tobacco Company at regular prices but they limited you to 5 at a time. Believe the site is OVTC.com, you can call/email for availability- very nice people to deal with.
