I'm not sure what the difference is in the two, but I've had a box pressed padron...and i hated it.

There is nothing worse than being in the mood for a really good cigar, and then finding out the cigar sucks.

So I'm looking at this handmade Padron...and i notice the band is a little differnet, and you can tell it is handrolled and not a box press.

My question is, are they different when you smoke them? Or am i going to be dissappointed again?

If you know let me know :).

Chris

Box pressed cigars are handmade. Handmade cigars aren't all box pressed.

I think the Fumas are machinemade.

Hey, atleast if your Tim, that'd make me Al, which means I wear flannel and will die alone....

Wait a minute!

Box pressed simply means that a cigar has been pressed to give it a squared shape. It has nothing to do with being handmade, although I don't believe I've ever seen a box pressed machine made smoke.

ALL Padrons are handmade. The box pressed Padrons are the 1964 and 1926 series including the Millenium and 40th Ann. All other Padrons are non box pressed so I'm guessing you had an Anniversary of some sort. Which one?

If it was a strength issue that made you not like the one you had you might like the "regular line" more as they are not as full bodied.

Ok thanks for the distinction.

The padron i had and hated was box pressed.

The one i have now is not, and simply says padron on a black label and says importado.

The two have different bands, and i think the box pressed one was brown...i think.

As far as dates or anything else i couldn't tell you...ill try to look the two up.

Chris

It sounds like the non box pressed cigar is a fumas. There is another thread in the discussion forum talking about the fumas right now.

Ok so i looked up some images of padrons....the Fumas padrons look most like the one i currently have..has a tip on it...the outside wrapper doesn't end in a smooth end, it ends like if you took a piece of tissue paper and twisted it.

Does that help? god im such a newb lol.

Just checked the old posts...next time ill do this...sounds like alot of you think them to be a good cigar for the price...and since they are short filler where-as the one i had was long filler i think i'm going to give it a try.

Thanks folks

Chris

so mac, you like the fumas (short filler), and think the anniv. series sucks. ill bet you a box of fumas that in a year youll look back at this post and laugh out loud.

I said i didn't like the box pressed that i had yes, whether it was the anniv. series /shrugs.

As for the fumas...i haven't tried it yet, so you've misread my previous posts...i don't like them...i don't know if i will...i probably won't. It may very well be that i dislike padron's in general who's to say.

It wasn't the worst cigar i've ever had...it just isn't something i'd want to smoke on a regular basis.

I'm not saying you should like Padrons but I am just curious as to what you did not like about it? Also, what type of cigars do you usally smoke/what do you like in a cigar?

Well i think the padron i had was a maduro. I have found that there are certain maduro's i like and the others i don't. I know i like the Cuesta Rey Maduro alot, but any maduro that people have refered to as "spicy" i haven't liked for the most part. Like Diablo's i hated although i was told is a "good and spicy maduro" I think I'm just very selective in my likes.

The following cigars are my favorites: Cuesta Rey Centenario's (all of them) Torrano (I think they were reserve selecta's), CAO Brazillia's, and Itallia's, Cohiba Cubans (of course), and i'm sure there were others but being new i don't remember them all.

As an update, i just smoked the Padron Fumas, and your right it was not as good as the other one that i had had. The other padron was by far a better smoke...but that doesn't mean i'd buy it for myself again.

As for what i look for in a smoke...i like a smooth draw..the CAO Itallia's probably have the best draw I've had. I like Full bodied cigars, Cuesta Rey's Centenario Maduro, and the CAO Italia come to mind when i think of full bodied. Over all taste to me is important, it has to taste good. And as i said before the ones i've been told are spicy are not to my taste.

Chris,

I find it interesting you didn't like the Padron as it would seem to fit your liking. As statred above you may find that once you've been smoking awhile you may like it. I don't know exactly what you smoked but a 1926 can be a stong cigar but a PAN is very smooth and flavorful and has an amazing draw. I smoked an Italia and I found it to be light to medium bodied and lacking in flavor other than tobacco but taste is a personal thing. I would say when you've run the course of the NC cigars and develope your palete a bit give the PAN a second look.

Mac in general does not seem to like Box pressed cigars much at all...I keep feeding him good cigars and he all spoiled by that damn Cohiba pyramide he smoked (that he could not finish lol..but then I could not either. Once Mac gets his personal tastes down he will make a fine BOTL...

the first PAM i smoked, i didn't like it. i hadn't been smoking cigar very long and i thought it was nasty. i threw it away about two inches down. i had been smoking MC white labels a lot. then, i started smoking a cigar a day and starting spending time on these boards got used to the taste of good cigars. i don't waste my money on MCs any more. i, now, find them boring and far to mild. Also, not worth the price IMO. now, i'll definitely enjoy the hell out of a PAM! I was the same way with opus. i had two really early in my cigar smoking. still haven't tried another. but i'm pretty sure i'm going to enjoy the one i have way more than the first two. just keep smoking. you'll get the hang of it.

the first PAM I smoked was a 26 A or 1. whichever it is.

I loved it. that's all I can say.

If it was a 1926, it wasn't a "PAM".
