Pipe tobacco question

In reading the threads here I have gathered that to find out if I will enjoy smoking a pipe, I should purchase a corn cob pipe or two and tobacco from a B&M. What I have not seen is any relationship between cigar and pipe tobaccos. If I like med - full cigars like Oliva G and Padron is there a way to guess what pipe tobacco I might like?

The part of pipe smoking I am intrigued about is that I could to have a 20 - 30 minute smoke without having to throw away a cigar that would have enjoyed life for another hour or so.
