so i watched the 1st disc from my forbidden x dvd set last night. it was the one about "the making of th opus x". it was a pretty cool documentery and i loved all the footage of the plantation/rooling rooms/packaging/etc. and ill be the fist of many on here to admit that i love the fuente line just as much as the next guy.

but is carlito fuente the cockiest guy youve ever heard in your life? by the end of the movie i was ready to run a hot pearing knife through my retna. i did a little tallying; i heard him say "i" 87 times, "me" 61 times, "mine" 55 times, "i am god" twice, "i will one day rule the world and all crackers will bow down before me" once and i swear i remember him say he invented the internet. that was about the time my techni-color yawn was hitting the toilet, so i lost count.

i must disclose i did go out and buy 2 boxes of opusx this morning, but thats none of your damn buisiness. ;)

A little cocky..Yes he is.

A true success story...You better believe it.

He has worked hard for what he has got. Maybe he just needs to come back down to earth a little. If it was not for the little guys like us, buying his product, his success would not be as great.

yeah, i didn't enjoy the second disc as much for that reason. he is a bit too proud. or maybe not that he's too proud, but that it's far too apparent

Great observation, they should all be treated a business people and sales people. It's all about profit maximization.

I had a similar reaction to the interview he did with CA last month. He's kind of a freak, and he clearly takes everything VERY seriously. But, in my experience, most people don't acheive that level of success without some serious mental deficiencies to drive them. Whether it be enourmous pride, a need for approval, whatever, most very objectively successful people are weird.

That is to be expected when the video is about you. :p

To me, and yes I may be a little biased, he sounds more like a proud father.

I thought this thread was going to be about one of the FOGs.

:sign:

Having seen the DVDs, I thought they were type-A personalities. Make a documentary about the CEO of any large, succesful corporation's CEO--Jack Welch, Lee Iacocca, whoever, and they're all going to be very cocky.

I believe the personality type is dubbed "productive narcissist."

Edit: I loved his explanation for the Opus X name:

Opus X; Opusex. Sounds like sex!

LOL

You are all missing the most important point of this thread!

Where on earth did you find two whole boxes of OpusX that someone would sell you!

Believe it or not, he's actually rather humble in person; but get him rolling on something he's passionate about, and all bets are off. :)

I didn't see it as arrogant so much but as someone who is very confident in his abilities and very passionate about his dreams. Very passionate. I was so impressed by his ambition that I shared the DVD with my teenage son one afternoon. I wanted to show him a story of individuals that wouldn't let anything or anyone hold them back from their dreams. My son was so impressed with the story that he asked me if he could keep the DVD. Huh? When I asked him a couple of months later what happened to the DVD he told me that he still has it and still watches it. He was also quite impressed by Carlos Jr's drive.

I know a very successful winemaker who has a similar personality if not notched up at least ten fold  . The similarities in their drive and success is uncanny, I would love to get these two guys together sometime. The winemaker is world renowned for his accomplishments, personality and vision as well. He has also been labeled as arrogant for his dreams and ambitions.

You've seen documentaries about those three people?

I was oversimplifying.

I guess what I was trying to say is, you find a mugh higher percentage of "productive narcissists" in the ranks of CEOs than in the general population.

yeah, just as often as youve seen ducumentaries on Jack Welch, Lee Iacocca.

and yes, id say using the word "all", is definatly oversimplifying.

im sure if stacked up the ceo asses against the ceo good guys, the asses would probably win. but dont short change all the good guys out there by lumping them all together.

i just like to think there a few down to earth, religious and most importantly humble ceos out there.

I met Carlito about 2 years ago at an A. Fuente tasting. He's was a very nice and humble person to talk with. So when I watched the video, I thought the same thing..."He sounds very cocky." but I knew how he really is and overlooked all of it and watched the video to learn about his accomplishments.
