This cigar comes from a rand that prides itself on consistency which is confirmed by a lot of great ratings although outside of our experiment. I personally love this brand but have never hid this particular vitola

Review Notes:

Construction : 27.9/30 - Beautiful dark wrapper, tight box press with no flaws in the wrapper. The tip was wonderfully finished to where you couldn't notice the end of the wrapper. Solid feel with no mushy/soft spots. No random glue smudges anywhere. The foot looked even and full/tight.

Flavor : 32/40 - The biggest knock on this stick is the singular flavor profile. While it is a flavor I like, and very consistent all the way thru, is is a one trick pony. The body is full with black pepper coming to the front and staying throughout.

Complexity : 16/20 - Again, it's black pepper from the get go and never ceases. Unfortunately, that's all ya get. Great smoke, just weak from this standpoint.

Esthetics/Appearance : 9.5/10 - The only flaw was a couple bumps near the foot. Every other inch of this stick was perfection. I appreciate the value of a good torpedo-type roller. When done wrong, it's really wrong. When done right, it's a thing of beauty. This was tight, uniform and pressed nicely. The filler was tightly packed so there was no humps/bumps. The foot was fully filled and looked great.

, not for me at all, but can see how some would like it. I think it smoked funny, there were 2" long cracks down both sides, this may have thrown the mix off.
Complexity 13, fairly uniform amd not much change
Esthetics/ appearance 8

#3
Total points = 71

Construction - 22 points, burned well, drew well, solid feel.

Flavor profile - 27 points, somewhat flat and one demensional but a good flavor at times.

Complexity - 14 points, one demensional, but good flavor.

Esthetics/appearance - 8 points, looked clean and a solid feeling stick.

Slight box press with a sharp point at the head. Full pack with 1 large soft spot 2/3's from foot. Burn was very good. I think it has Pennsylvania Broad Leaf. Has some semisweet dark chocolate and ginger spice up front through out the 1st 1/3. A little ruff on the retro. Not too complex as I only pick up a few notes and they stayed true, not to much transition through the first 2/3. That's where it developed a sweeter milk chocolate note with a bit more spice on the lips and tip/middle of the tongue. The draw was snug with no complaints. No burn issues what so ever. The spice built up further on the last 1/3 where the ginger note seemed to go red pepper and a slight bitter coffee note showed up at the very end. All in all it was good. I'd smoke it again.
I sipped some blonde and bitter coffee with it.

Construction:28
No touch ups, excellent burn, long ash

Flavor profile:37
Very much to my liking

Complexity:18
Different and enjoyable throughout

Excellent smoke

3# - Overall score: 73

Construction - 25. There was a large crack and glue patch on the cigar. Otherwise it seemed fine.

Flavor - 30. One dimensional. Dark bitter earth, dry mouthfeel. Not usually in my wheelhouse. Between the damage and the flavor profile, I am honestly thinking this may just be a bad stick. Would like to revisit after blind review because this didn’t taste like a top 25 cigar. I did not finish it.

Complexity- 12. No transitions. Straight forward flavor profile.

Appearance - 6. There was a crack that was fixed with glue. Otherwise it had nice tight seams.

Cigar # 3 Score 67
Nice dark torpedo, looks great
8:50 - 10:18
nice dry draw

First Third - wood, bitter, strength, nice retro hale, just got a great note, char, nutty, I feel I’m searching for the notes and not finding them. Blindfolded in a room full of obstacles. Enjoying smoke, just not grabbing specific notes. Esthetics/Appearance - 10. nice ash, bumped into that sweet note again

Second third - this smoke is all over the place for me. Sweet, then bitter, sweet, then bitter. Nicotine seems to be becoming a factor. clip and purge.

Final third - lost interest by this time.

Overall this was the hardest stick for me to evaluate. It will be crazy if I’ve liked it in the past.
Construction - 27 plus
Flavor Profile - 20 (this was confusing for me, but overall, not a positive)
Complexity - 10 or less
Appearance - 10
Total - 67

I hope to try one again sometime to see if I was just off.
No idea but I’ll throw a guess as an LFD

Prelight slight tabacco smell
1/3 slight tabacco and leather; retrohale is not pleasent
2/3 leather and tabacco; some bitterness; retrohale is milder now
3/3 leather and tabacco; bitter;
medium bodied, medium strength, one dimensional. Not bad if under $5/stick.

Cigar: Padron 1964 Torpedo Maduro
Cigar Aficionado Rating https://www.cigaraficionado.com/rat...64-anniversary-series-torpedo-maduro-figurado

This one received my highest score. I expected it to do much better with everyone else. So much for that touted consistency, huh?

My least favorite of the 5. I'm a huge fan of the Pyramide and Diplomatico in Natural in the 64's. Maduro's are good... just not as enjoyable as the Natural IMO. The look of the one I had, just didn't look like it was Padron quality. It was a good cigar... but knowing now that it was a Padron... disappoints me some. I've always held them in a bit higher regard.
