Punch stopped by my cigar club (The Metropolitan Society) on Monday for a really cool event.

They brought a master roller and he gave out 4 little cigarillos with different wrappers that Punch uses: Conn. Shade, Maduro, Ecudorian and Honduran. The filler was the same for all so that the wrappers flavors were highlighted. Then the master roller told us where we would/should experience the flavor. Then they gave us a Punch cigar that had the wrapper we had just tasted.

It was one of the first times I have really had that type of tasting education. It was very cool. I am still not a big Punch fan, but it was still cool.

I heard they were doing this at the Big Smoke as well. Did anyone go?

I missed it but will definitely make plans to head out to the Metro one of these nights as it's been a while since I've visited.

They didn't do that at the Big Smoke. Too many people, not enough time.

We had something similar at our local shop, the Partagas master blender came in with the little sample sticks. There were three in each bag, one for each type of leaf, volado, seco and ligero. We would smoke one, then he would explain what it was. They didn't taste very good, in fact you might only smoke 1/2" of it. The point was to show how the blend of the three affects the taste of the whole. It was very interesting and a great lesson.
