False advertising

Cheyenne, Wyoming, is
not located in the mountains but is situated on the high plains near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, specifically the Laramie Mountains to the west. While not directly surrounded by peaks like some mountain towns, residents can see the Laramie range, a part of the Rocky Mountains, in the distance, especially on clear days

Then I'm not going..

I love the change, my birth place and it's closer for me. Sadly no Bucees though. 🙁

Agree I don't really get the change though. What's flying into Cheyenne like I wonder? Guessing the airport pickup will be simpler to arrange. 🤣

As someone born not too far from Cheyenne, I'll doggedly defend the state of Wyoming against pretty much anything.

That being said, this move is going to be a net negative for the attendees. Little America is... alright, I guess... but it's not an Omni. As stated, Cheyenne is solidly in the plains. CYS has limited EAS airline service, so in order to get there, you'll need to fly into DEN and drive up.

I certainly understand the move from a regulatory perspective, though. CO is driving away pretty much everything fun.

I asked Gemini to summarize the 67 minute video and generate a top 50 things to know list using the video transcript

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7DpOtUQDRI

Note you could do the same thing and ask it any question to see if they addressed it.

Using the linked video and its transcript, can you tell me what they said about X?

See below for Top 50 ( a popular one perhaps... they are paying all cigar taxes)

The Big Move & Venue Changes
  • 1. New Location: The Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival is officially moving to the Little America Resort and Hotel in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
  • 2. New Date: The festival will take place earlier than usual, now scheduled for August 1st.
  • 3. Always in August: While the specific weekend shifted this year, organizers confirmed the festival will always remain in the month of August.
  • 4. Why They Left Colorado: The organizers were forced to move due to tightening Colorado state laws that heavily restricted where attendees could smoke and drink simultaneously.
  • 5. The State vs. The City: The previous host city of Broomfield was actually very supportive of the festival; it was state-level restrictions that ultimately forced the move.
  • 6. Previous Permits: Over the last few years, Colorado had created a specific "tobacco festival permit" for them, but the regulations still became too tight.
  • 7. The Warning Sign: Co-host Scotty Brayband noted that his mobile cigar lounge was previously shut down by the state, which served as an early warning of Colorado's growing anti-tobacco stance.
  • 8. Proximity to Denver: The new venue is only about an hour and 15 minutes north of the old Omni Hotel location, making it an easy drive from Denver International Airport.
  • 9. A Welcoming Environment: The city of Cheyenne and the Little America property are openly welcoming the cigar community.
  • 10. Outdoor Layout: The event will remain outdoors, utilizing a large parking lot, grassy areas, and shaded trees, alongside large tents for VIP and General Admission.
  • 11. Big Crowds: Cheyenne is well-equipped for crowds, as the massive Cheyenne Frontier Days festival wraps up the Sunday right before the cigar festival.
Tickets, Pricing, & Perks

  • 12. Ticket Sale Date: Tickets will officially go on sale April 27th at 8:00 AM Mountain Time on Eventbrite.
  • 13. Prices Stay the Same: Despite the massive venue change, ticket prices and the amount of goodies provided in the bags will not change.
  • 14. Social Tickets: The entry-level ticket includes festival access, a meal, a taster glass, a water bottle, and a t-shirt.
  • 15. General Admission: GA tickets include all Social perks plus around 50 cigars.
  • 16. VIP Tickets: VIP gets early access, a dedicated tent with seating, and an additional tier of about 20 to 25 cigars.
  • 17. Executive VIP: This ultra-exclusive tier is limited to exactly 55 people and includes a third tier of premium cigars.
  • 18. Massive Tax Savings: Cigars will be sold at MSRP, and Smoker Friendly will cover all state and sales taxes, offering huge savings over Colorado prices.
  • 19. Integrated Liquor Vendors: Because Wyoming's laws are less restrictive, liquor vendors will once again be mixed in alongside the cigar vendors rather than being separated.
Vendors, Logistics & History

  • 20. 17th Anniversary: This will be the 17th year of the Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival.
  • 21. Festival Origins: The event originally started in Boulder at the Millennium Harvest House with only about 400 to 500 attendees.
  • 22. The Omni Era: The festival moved to the Omni Hotel after about five years of growth.
  • 23. Total Attendance: The modern festival hosts around 2,500 people, which includes 2,000 ticketed guests plus staff and vendors.
  • 24. Vendor Count: The festival typically features between 100 to 120 different vendors.
  • 25. The Industry Event: The public festival is actually the culmination of the Smoker Friendly tobacco festival and conference, an industry event celebrating its 30th year.
  • 26. Smoker Friendly Network: The private conference brings in representatives from about 700 Smoker Friendly stores.
  • 27. Vendor Retention: Almost all previous cigar manufacturers are returning to the new venue.
  • 28. Dun Barton's Absence: Dun Barton is the only brand that had to drop out due to prior commitments on the new August 1st date, but they are expected back in 2027.
  • 29. Easy Purchasing: Smoker Friendly employees will staff every manufacturer booth to handle the point-of-sale transactions so brand reps can focus on talking to attendees.
  • 30. Lodging Will Be Tight: Little America has fewer rooms than the Omni. Organizers are putting together room blocks, shuttles, and overflow parking plans.
  • 31. Hotel Contracts: Mary Zarmarmac, VP of government relations at Smoker Friendly, handles the hotel contracts and state negotiations.
Cigar Dojo Events & Community Vibe

  • 32. Schedule Swap: The Cigar Dojo schedule is flipping this year. The Brewery Beer Tour will likely happen on Thursday (July 30th).
  • 33. New Dojo Hotel: Cigar Dojo has already secured a room block for Dojo members at a brand new hotel in Cheyenne.
  • 34. Friday Events: The Doella Festival and live show will happen on Friday.
  • 35. Friday Night Parties: Both the Drew Estate HERF and the Rocky Patel Cigar Bash will take place on Friday night at Little America.
  • 36. Tailgate Tradition: The beloved Cigar Dojo post-festival tailgate party will return on Saturday evening, complete with drinks, cigars, and games like "Name That Tune".
  • 37. Digital Badge: The crew discussed creating a special brand badge on the Dojoverse app for attendees who make the trek to Wyoming.
  • 38. Cowboy Theme: To embrace the Cheyenne location, the Cigar Dojo crew is officially committing to wearing cowboy hats (and possibly chaps) to the festival.
  • 39. A Call for Support: Master Sensei urged attendees not to complain online about the changes, emphasizing that the organizers need the community to rally behind them.
