Via a simple search, many sites have debunked the alleged 'origin' of the term "Rule of Thumb".
Fact: There once was an English Common Law that stated pretty much... You can beat your wife, with good reason, with a stick no bigger in diameter than your thumb. That there was such a law is not argued...
