San Diego Vacation

Down in the Gas Lamp district there are two. I was there a couple weeks ago playing golf while my gf was taking her REO exam, we decided to make a day of it and really check out SD.

We stopped at the closest one to the tram which is called Cesar's. A couple friendly girls work there, and also serve various coffee drinks. The humidor was tall and narrow, but very hot, it had to be 80 degrees in there. It was weird because outside of the humidor it had to be 10 degrees cooler. It was evident the cigars were taking a beating as some of them were cracked and busted. The selection was moderate to poor. It seems they were in between shipments, and most of the brands they had were way overpriced for type of tobacco used. I found a Partagas blend that seemed OK and the GF settled on a Montecristo. They have inside and outside seating, so we settled down and watched some TV (plasma) and shot the sh!t with some Navy men. Both cigars although they looked fine were pretty dry and the only thing that saved the experience was the conversation.

The second shop called the Cuban Cigar Factory, which I assume is a chain because I have seen one up in Irvine, was pretty cool. There was an old man rolling cigars by the door which was surreal because I have never really seen someone roll. The humidor was a perfect 69 degrees and 68% RH, it was probably one of the coolest looking humidors I have seen made entirely out of stone and Spanish cedar. This shop had a huge selection of CAO's, Davidoff's, AF's, and many others. I decided on a Criollo and the gf needed something lighter so she went with a Moontrance. Both cigars were perfect, as they should be when taken care of properly. I would check in at Cesar's, maybe get a coffee, but head over to the Factory for a descent cigar.
