Yeah, he was a left wing radical, tree hugging, Communist nutjob who apposed all military actions, wanted us all to live in one giant commune, and rejected capitalism. But he sure could write a song...."Where Have All the Flowers Gone," "Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season)" and "If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)."

For you younger guys, he basically invented the idea of writing a song to put out a strong message (as Jack Kerouac did in prose) other than about heartbreak, lost loves, driving fast, dying in the arms of a loved one, or getting drunk. If you HAD to find one redeeming quality in him, that would be it.

Godspeed ya' hippie bastid!

I couldn't agree more Gary, he was an iconoclast figure to say the least. I grew up with the tree hugging crowd and remember his news worthy antics and fabulous song writing fondly. He will be missed. RIP Mr. Seeger.

A giant of American music, a champion of Woody Guthrie he practically invented modern folk music. Too bad he didn't win that one last Grammy on Sunday.  I'll miss you Pete.

Pete left a legacy that can be enjoyed eternally. Thanks Pete. Now get some rest.
