Shippers Suck!

Just got off the line with a vendor I'm working with and DHL. I requested an item from a vendor in Cal to be sent expedited by 2-day delivery this past Sunday. Therefore, the idea is it should get here within the week.

I get the tracking info today and indeed DHL received the package on Monday. But the package was marked for a seven day delivery. :angry2:

So I call the vendor and they claim they sent the package through 2 day delivery at DHL. :angry2:

I call DHL who has recently heralded claims of "GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE." They claim they did not make the mistake and it was the vendor's fault... and oh there is nothing they can do to help me. :angry2:

While waiting on the line with DHL customer service rep for five minutes, I saw on the DHL website how their customer service is sooooo awesome it can save dying babies, yet in real life they cannot get a delivery time straight. So IMHO I guess I might as well go with the lowest bidder for my shipping needs since it seems all shippers suck the big fat one.

I fired my vendor since they offered nothing to make it right. DHL is fired and I will never do business with them again, making ever effort that with whatever vendor I deal with they do not use DHL. It makes me more angry that they offer a claim of great customer service, yet when push came to shove they couldn’t step up to the plate.

Both parties had a chance to do right and both dropped the ball.

USPS you got the job.

The distribution company I worked for this summer used UPS for everything, and never experienced any problems. There were a few items damaged in transit, but insurence took care of it with no problems. The only package that was delayed was due to a storm, and it only took an extra day or two. UPS is very helpful when dealing with companies that do a lot of shipping with them, although I have heard of individuals who have had problems. USPS or FedEx may be better for individuals who are shipping packages. As for tracking, it is pretty tough to beat the UPS system.

just my $.02

edited for spelling

my experience with DHL (or dh hell as i like to put it) has been horrible.
I had an order come in from a vendor that says all over the package, adult signature required, and it was left out in the hot sun on my door step. this is for a wine of the month club, needless to say, the white wine doesn't like heat! they also left a box of padrons on said door step at my old house, only to be pilferred. once again, box said adult sig. required.
At work, we tried them as an alternative to UPS. someone transpossed an account number, we have been getting billed for shipments we have not made. i call customer non-service, they tell me they cannot change this in their database, to which i replied "come to my office and take your crap back, you moroons are fired!"...6 months later this issue is still not resolved. Never use DH HELL, they suck arse! rant over...

USPS is a joke. Too many lost packages and shipments delayed for no reason. Go with UPS. Never had a problem with FedEx either.

I've always gotten great service from DHL. Did you only speak to one CSR at DHL? Did you speak to their supervisor? Etc...

I will say that it seems that you have to raise a little hell with them in order to ensure good service all the time.

We use DHL almost exclusively at work because they're cheaper than UPS or FedEx, and I haven't had too many problems. On all our slips, they can only get sent ground or express, each of which is a separate slip. The slowest express is 2 day. Look on the box and it will say if it's express or ground and you'll be able to tell who screwed up. I've never had ground take more than a few days before...

Coming from an Ex UPS employee family member the way 2 day air works is if its going to a business it will be there second day gauranteed. If its going to a home (Residential) then they do not have to follow the same rules and do not gaurantee second day air. Heck according to them it can travel 7 day ground and still they are within thier own rules. Just second hand information on my part.

I was selling ton's of live fish over the internet at one time and used ALL of the vendors mentioned above. Pre 9/11 I could ship them through any airline without any problems whatsoever. Of course, everything changed after the attack. In order to be able to ship through the airlines now, you have to be a "Known Shipper"....and that entails a ton of paperwork not to mention the fee they charge to come to your place and inspect you and your family. Not only that, the airlines are required to open and inspect the contents of random boxes. If there are any air cargo handlers reading this post, I apologize in advance, but there is absolutely not a chance in hell I could trust them to open, inspect the fish and then close it again. They were packed in a way that they would stand the best chance of survival given the rough handling they get before they arrive at their destination.

So, I was forced to find a method of delivery that would come closet to what I was using in terms of time and cost. As I said, I tried all of them and here is what I concluded after giving them all a fair chance:

USPS Price was great, but they cannot be trusted to get your package delivered overnight. Too many lost packages.

UPS Price was second best, but they could not live up to their overnight guarantee. Lost packages, damaged packages, and a major pain in the ass when you file for a late or lost package.

FedEx Price was the highest on overnight delivery, but they always delivered on time, and a lot of times, they delived BEFORE the guaranteed time.

DHL Price was the best, and always delivered at or before the guaranteed time. Never a damaged package. The several hundred boxes I shipped through them, I had one problem - fog in Ohio delayed a flight bound to Boston. It was delayed several hours, but the fish arrived alive nonetheless and I, (actually the customer) was refunded the shipping charges. DHL is the go to delivery system for me if I had to have something delivered on time.

Also several weeks ago our company got an apology letter from DHL. They opened a new major hub somewhere and had a big problem when it first started up. They apologized for the late packages and said they had the bugs worked out.
