SKYPE anyone?

Anyone here use Skype?

Been playing with it for a couple hours now. Looks like it may have the ability for a bunch of guys to get together for a voice chat/conference call.

Might be fun to have this on during the poker games or just to shoot the breeze whenever.

Skype is good stuff! Bob & I use it while we record the show every week. Look for daledogwatch, usually on Friday nights!

A friend of mine has just moved to Austria for a 4 month work stint and his wife called my wife Sunday morning using that program. They were on the 'puter, and my wife was on the phone. The call quality basically sucked, alot of fading in & out and very staticy. If you guys say it's good, it must be something they've done wrong, or a cheap headset or something.

We may try that one of these days again. Once you get more then 3-4 folks on the call though, the sound quality degrades (so far) to the point it's hard to get a good recording. Most of that has to do with the quality of the mics/headsets different people use, and some of it has to do with the bandwidth capabilities of the various local broadband providers. We'll discuss it again and may give it a try soon.

Of the Voip packages I have tried, this one has the best audio quality. Spoke to a woman in Germany with no garble at all, was just like a regular phone call.

I have a nice headset, so that probably helps. I used to buy the cheap ones, but they would always break and the sounded terrible. Finally bought a nice USB headset and I have had no troubles since then.

What kind of connection do you need for that? Will it work with DSL?

I am on DSL, works fine.
