So what's the general rule on CP...

I have no problem with entrepreneurs posting their skills/services/etc....as long as they dont try to feed it to me on a constant basis and try to detract from the experience of CP. And its done in a halfway discreet manner.

The Admin(Rod) might have something to say against it though...

3.) No Spaming - do not post continuous advertisements in the forums.

Huh?

Do you mean me making money at the expense of the labor put into this website?

I've withdrawn my post, just curious to know what your thinking :)

why take off the first post? it doesn't change anything.

What if I put in a link to my company's website, what would that have to do with cigars? ;)

KB,

Reason this rule is in effect is due to the fact that last year we had several people signing up and advertising their services. Some had no interest in cigars, they would simply post with the link to their site in their signature. We had people advertising everything from web hosting to phonesex. That's why rule #3 is in place. :)

Thanks,
Rod

Hmmm, is the link to my blog in my sig considered a violation? If so, I'm happy to remove it, but given that it's not a commercial enterprise, I'm not sure if it violates the rule. It's definitely "self-promotion", however. :)

My first post wasn't advertising my services. It was asking what CP's general rule of thumb on the issue was. I removed it so no one would have to respond to my question since it was already answered. I did make the mistake of saying what field i was in as part of the question, and I felt that mentioning that was blind advertising. So I removed the post all together.

Please make sure you and everyone understands, my initial thread in no way contained advertising. I just assumed since the issue was resolved rather promptly, there's no need to keep it on the board for others to get involved!

My apologies to the board if I mislead anyone.

If it does make any difference, and I know it doesnt... my general question was in regards to my field of work and helping members of the board out. Not any sort of product or personal service to sell.

Helping out memebers is one thing. Promoting yourself on a free board is another. I don't think you were trying to profit from Rods board.

I don't have a problem with it. We have a few people who are respected members and have businesses too. As long as it doesn't get out of hand.
