BRISTOL - Last September 10-year-old Danny Derouin learned something about his father that saved his dad's life.
"Well he gave me a hug and then he looked at me and says, 'Dad your heart sounds funny.' I was like, 'OK you don't know,'" Doug Derouin said.
Danny showed us how he put his ear up to his dad's heart and that's when he heard the weird sound.
It was a whooshing sound Danny said.
At first, Doug didn't take it seriously, but his son insisted something wasn't right.
"And then he kind of looked at me and said, 'No something's wrong. I think you should go see the doctor,'" Doug Derouin said.
The next day Doug went to the doctor. The doctor sent him to a cardiologist and three days later, he was in surgery for a life threatening heart problem.
"Thank God for my son," Doug Derouin said.
All is now well and what a story. Danny even has a new nickname: "Doctor Dan!"
"My dad came up with it," Danny explained.
