Growing too fast.
It’s been a gorgeous day here in the South, although the wind has been a bit brisk and cool. I’ve been looking forward to putting fire to a Tatuaje Boris to see how they’re coming along, so picked one out the box and head out to the swing in the back yard. The wrapper is a medium brown with noticeable oil sheen when held in the sunlight, with only a couple of veins. It has a good weight in the hand, has a slight give when squeezed, and after punching the cap I find a perfect draw with taste of straightforward tobacco.
After toasting the foot and getting a good, even burn going, I take a few quick puffs and let it rest a bit. After a small amount of ash has formed, I take few more quick puffs and then a long draw. I find the smoke to be mild to almost medium with a smidgen of spice on the back of the tongue and throat. Flavors are that of good, straightforward tobacco; nothing fancy or sweet, but just straightforward tobacco with a kind of charred wood finish that is not bad all and semi-lasting.
After several more good draws, the smoke begins to build in strength to right at medium with the spice still a bit on the mild side, a nice full body is covering the palate well. Smoke is flowing in abundance through the perfect draw with a sharp burn and medium gray ash forming that holds well until tapped off. I can see a nice sized piece of ash left that was a twig sticking out. Flavors continue to be that of just really good straightforward tobacco that isn’t rich rich, but still downright delicious. The finish is semi lasting as I exhale slowly through mouth and nose.
Halfway and into the final third, the cigar has a sharp burn with the ash continuing to be a medium gray and holding strong. The smoke itself is a good medium strength with the spice picking up to medium as well, hitting the back of the tongue and throat just right. I have to admit that I don’t find a lot of difference in the flavors from the first Boris I smoked last year, just good straightforward tobacco with possibly a hint of vanilla and a finish that is rather short on the palate. I’d have to say that I’m not to overly impressed with this cigar, mainly due to the fact that I’ve become accustomed to the really sweet and rich taste from other Tats smoked as of late. But still, a really good cigar!
