Well guys, Mel's Grand Dragon will age another year. Our chorus was approximately 3.4 points (on a 100 pt basis) out of the running for an alternate invite to Montreal next July. It doesn't seem like much, but if we maintain our current size, it's actually months worth of work.
We went to Little Rock this last weekend knowing there was no way to win. The Vocal Majority, as usual, let it all hang out and posted a score higher than anyone in the world....and they should. They are the best of the best.
The Texas Millionaires went into the contest with nothing to lose. We went to have fun, and watch/cheer/support our brothers, the VM. We also happened to have sung better than we ever have before....which happens to have beaten about 1/2 of the choruses that won their respective districts.
I feel sorry for those districts that don't have GOOD competition. Competition drives you to new heights. Our district has 4 'A' choruses which has driven our chorus to achieve better singing each and every time we get on the risers.
Next years district contest will be in Corpus, the VM will have undoubtedly won their 9th International gold medal in a row and not be present for the competition.
