I'm thinkin about goin to see journey in concert in a few weeks, but they have some new lead singer, as of this past december.

Now, I know Steve Perry hasnt been with them in years, and that's my issue. I dunno if this guy can compete. He's from a cover band, and He's filipino. That's all I know.

Tickets arent overly expensive, but just curious if anyone has heard this guy. I don't want to take the girl and be dissapointed...

So, any input? Experience? Anything?

Thanks

I just can't think Journey without Steve Perry- Do you know if Neal Schon is even in the band??? Our buddy Randy Jackson from "American Idol" was in the band after the second break up. I had the pleasure of seeing Journey twice after the Wheel in the Sky tour.... back when bands were bands...

Yes Neal Schon is in the band...

And I agree about the Steve Perry comment, however, when the band chooses someone who has become very successful by covering their songs, I'm sure he will be a fine.

I saw this new guy on television. Turns out he's been singing the old Journey tunes since he was a kid and when he auditioned for the spot he commented that everyone should just close their eyes and listen. He was 'spot on' for sounding just like Perry.

I am a Journey fan, and I have seen them in the 80s with Steve Perry. I would say if the prices are reasonable it may be worth a shot. I find that all I listen to nowadays is on Sirius and it is either Hair Nation (80s Metal) or Classic Rock. Today's music just doesn't do it for me, I don't get it.

I saw the Journey/Styx/Reo package show several years back. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a bigger fan of The Who/Zepp/Floyd and felt that Journey were always a second tier rock act compared to the aforementioned giants. However, I found myself really loving this show just because it was music that I had listened to (while waiting to hear songs from my favorite bands) and it reminded me of a time and a place that I loved during my teen age years.

True, they may be missing Steve Perry (on vocals) and Steve Smith (on drums - who's now a monstrous talent in his own right!), but they put on as faithful (No pun intended!) a show in the singing department as they could with Perry in their ranks.

Definitely, if you have the cash and feel inclined to want to part with it, check them out. If not for nostalgic purposes, they still have the chops... Schon is killer still!!!

just my half centavo!

Without Perry is it REALLY Journey or just some cheap imitation?

Although I have selective amnesia about ever liking Journey, his voice is unmistakable and can not be easily replicated by a cover singer. Actually I am willing to bet that even Steve Perry can't sing like Steve Perry from the 80's.

Good to hear that Schon is still inp IMHO Steve Perry and the band was 1/2 of Journey, and Schon was the other half!!! If the new singer has mirrored Perrys styles, it should be fine... any new music???

Have not heard their "new" lead singer, but back in the day when Steve Perry first left and they took on Steve Augeri on vocals, his resemblance to Perry was incredible. Would be interesting to see how this new fella turns out.

But, having said that, the last time I listend to Journey was in the final episode of The Sopranos right when.....
