Not to say this couldn't happen, but much of what is considered as craters and impact residue from asteroids/comets could also be attributed to cosmic lightning bolts according to the electric universe theory.

Certainly not accepted in the mainstream, but an interesting theory, nontheless.

Apparently there is a comet called Apophis that has a 5% chance of hitting earth in 2039. It is currently classed as 4/10 on the Torino Impact Scale (10 being what the video showed).

I am sure by that time (when humanity will have already reached singularity) we will have a very effective method of diverting the big bastard.
