So I have a slight interest in scotch, single malt, blended, vatted and so on. And I've collected a half dozen or so decent bottles and was thinking it might be fun to have some freinds over for a scotch tasting event at my house. What pointers can some of the experts here give me? I'll be inviting all the wives along as well, to go knit somewhere or something, and they will be driving their drunk husbands home.

Is there a preferred appetizer or anything else that is typically served? Fancy cheese and crackers or something?

Thanks for the help!

Water works best. Since you aren't tasting for a review you don't have to try each scotch with an ultra clean palette. If you want to serve a mild cheese that won't hurt but try not to use a flavored or salted cracker.

Another thing I was thinking about would be a brief description of each bottle. Something I could print out and place at each bottle so people knew a little about what they were getting into. Do most larger production Scotch have websites where something like this can be obtained?

Good idea Gonz and if your really ambitous you can create tasting sheets with typical tastes and descriptors that are found in Scotch. This also gives your guests something to take hame with them in case they want to search out those bottles for their own collection.

A number of bottles have tasting notes with them and most distilleries post them on their websites. Of course, what the distilleries say is a bit biased in their favor.

Maybe this will help.
