To those of us using FireFox

Thank you for the tip. I have a bunch of stuff going on at the same time. I did close them all out after I changed the settings. It does seem a bit faster but multitasking many FF browsers at the same time.

There are tricks for IE as well:

Trick to Increase Internet Explorer Speed
1. Go to Start –> Run and type regedit

2. Select hkey_current_user –> Software –> Microsoft –> Windows –> Current Version–> Internet Settings

3. Change the Decimal Value of "MaxConnections Per1_0Server" and"MaxConnections PerServer" (without the spaces) to 10

4. Close regedit and See the difference in speed of IE Grin

* Internet Explorer performance is greatly dependent in part on the number of simultaneous connections that can be made for a current page. By default, the value is 4. This means only a maximum of 4 simultaneous connectons will be made per server.

Start > Run > Regedit
Hive: hkey_current_user
Key: Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Internet Settings
Name: MaxConnections PerServer
Type: REG_dword
Value: 10 (Decimal)
Name: MaxConnections Per1_0Server
Type: REG_dword
Value: 10 (decimal)

If these keys dont already exist, create them.make two dword values [Right click, New> dword Value]
MaxConnections Per1_0Server : Decimal value 10
MaxConnections PerServer : Decimal value 10

You can also increase your MTU size for faster speed overall:

Shame to hear some of you are using adblock at CP, since it's primarily the sponsors who help pay the bills.

Unfortunately, some of us need to or desire to block some avatars and signatures due to the pictures being used and there are many that I block that come through if I disable Adblock for CP. It still blocks those that are remote, but there are several that are not.

Until I can figure out a way to selectively block those avatars and signatures without blocking the ads I'll do it, but for now I don't think I have another choice. :(

Hey Alan,

You can log into "My Controls" and block both avatars and signatures there, and that won't affect the ads we display.

Thanks,
Rod

Our banners are hosted locally, so that will not slow down performance one bit. Shame to hear some of you are using adblock at CP, since it's primarily the sponsors who help pay the bills. In addition, I try to be very conservative with who we choose as sponsors, and also limit the ads to only one minor banner ad at the top of the forum. I hope you'll reconsider using adblock here, as our sponsors actually benefit the community, not only financially with helping to pay the bills, but with the value they ad as cigar retailers. We're not like other sites who bombard you with ads, we're not out to make money with a banner farm (like some :whistling: ) ... Either way, you're free to use adblock if choose, but you may miss out on specials and announcements.

By the way, thanks for the tip, FF runs much faster now.

CP is on my exceptions list on AdBlocker... :D

+1
