but I was just checking out the gurkha legend anniversario torpedos and I've only seen a couple cigars shaped like that. Anyway my question is do you clip the foot? If you do how much should you clip?

I believe what shape your refering too is called a perfecto...a torpedo is usually shaped like a regular cigar but has a pointed cap where as the perfecto is pointed at both ends. Some clip the foot of a perfecto, some dont...its up to you really. I usually clip mine as their easier to light and keep lit while first starting out. Wont hurt anything by not clipping it however.

I don't clip the foot and (for the most part) have not had lighting or bad burn issues. This goes for WOA, Short Stories, and other similar-shaped cigars as well. Light 'em up as is and enjoy! :thumbs:

...same here. Never had a Ghurka but plenty of WOA's, Short Stories, Hemi's, etc. Never had an issue.

So some perfectos are open at one end (looks like already clipped) and closed at the other (my main reference on this is the La Aurora Preferidos). I just looked up a pic of the Gurkha Centurian XX and it looks like both ends are open.

I think the best thing to do is to test the draw first. If it's too tight, clip. If not, smoke it.

For clipping the tapered end of a cigar, I always co conservative and test the draw. You can always cut more to increase the draw. Some people also cut at a diagonal bias. Then you get the whole argument about where to point the open side: up at the roof of your mouth or down at your tongue.

Do a search on "palate." You'll see where someone even linked a pic of the cigar in the mouth, illustrating the proper orientation.
