I am under the impression that the Womens US team threw the game for a much larger cause than a gold medal! SAVING SOFTBALL!.
I find it hard to beleive a team that dominated the opposition would lose to a vastly inferior team by 2 runs.
Thru 8 games.

and zero runs given up in 48 innings.
It is widely known that the reason the IOC decided to get rid of Womens Softball after this season was because the US womens team was too dominant and that no other team even came close to the caliber of play the US exhibited.
With the USA loss to Japan. "It clearly shows that the US is not as dominant as thought by the IOC"
Will the IOC now reconsider keeping womens softball?
