So my mail man told me yesterday that FedX was trying to buy the USPS. He said it would be a done deal except for the "Letter" mail, which they hadn't figured out how to handle. Has anyone else heard any thing about this?

Considering that the USPS is a governmental agency, I think that's a bit of a stretch.

I don't know the first thing about this rumor. But consider that they are thinking about "privatizing" Social Security, which also is a government run business. I think more companies/investors would be more interested in a company that actually does something besides giving checks to people. (Gross simplification, I know.)

I could be wrong, it's happened before, (but we don't talk about that). I believe the USPS is a private for profit company run as a quasi governmental agency.

That can't happen. Unless the President can get the Senate to approve it (which they won't), USPS can't be sold.

Probably what your mailman was thinking about is that USPS has signed a contract with FedEx to carry their Overnight packages.

Old news here, gents:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

POSTAL SERVICE, FEDEX REACH AGREEMENT ON BUSINESS ALLIANCE

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Postal Service and FedEx Express have formed a business alliance based on air transportation and retail business agreements. Under this alliance, the Postal Service will buy space on FedEx airplanes to transport Express Mail, Priority Mail and First-Class Mail and FedEx will locate overnight service collection boxes at post offices nationwide.

Here's the full release.

I don't see FedX "buying" USPS; why would they? Delivering first class letters for the current postage is a money loser.

Regards - B.B.S.

A little privatization wouldn't care the postal service. My two cents.
