I read the review on this cigar and was intrigued, so I decided to venture out and find one to smoke.

The Start

The cigars cover leaf is a dark Criollo wrapper. It has oils present and has a slightly rough feel. I didn't detect any soft spots. The cigar has a firm pack. The construction looks solid.

The draw on this cigar is surprisingly good in that it is a firm smoke. Each puff provides ample smoke. It starts out with good flavor, so I was eagerly anticipating what was to come. From what I understand, this cigar is a Nicaraguan puro and there is no mistaking that earthy flavor. The start to this cigar wasn't complex, it just provided good flavor.

The Middle

This is where the cigar began to change. The smoke began to get creamy with hints of dark coffee. I find that many Nicaraguan puros are a bit one dimensional, but this cigar has complexity to it. The smoke really begins to open up here. As you can see the cigar burns very well. I have not had to relight the cigar.

The End

This is where the cigar reached its full potential. Creamy, rich smoke was enjoyed to its end. The ash was dense and held together well. I was told that JdN manufactures this smoke. If I had to compare it to anything Id say it is similar to the Antano, but pulled back a bit strength wise. The cigar started out good and only got better from there.

This is my first review. I hope you have found it helpful.
You can find pics of the cigar in the cigar review gallery

Hey, well done!
So if I understood you correctly, that was your first Viaje?
I bought a nice sampler of differant sizes and my favorite so far has been the Fuerza.
It does seem to share some character of the JDN.
I have a little stash set aside and plan to try them again at some future date.
I'm hoping my instincts are good on this one in that the spice will develop as a little time goes by.

Yeah, this is the first one Ive had. I bought a few other sizes, but have not had a chance to smoke them yet.

Great review! I was actually looking at these on Kevin's site just last night. I've only had one of the JDN Antanos.... the lancero. I really enjoyed it. I think I'm going to have to get my mitts on a few of these as well.

hmm nice review lots of interesting stuff out there lately. i have been looking for change so i may be trying one of these along with some others i have seen reviewed recently.
