Literally, at the last minute, I received a PM today (at noon since I don't get up too early in the morning these days!!) from a fellow CigarPooler, Robert "Bubba" Beardsley that he and at least two other guys from the New England Smokeout cigar BB were going to meet this afternoon at the Mohegan Sun Casino (about 20 minutes from my house) to celebrate a birthday and smoke some cigars.

So, I tossed a few cigars in a zip lock and headed on down. It turned out the guy from New York cancelled at the last minute but the three of us bubba, ashman and I had a great time killing Castro's crops, shooting the breeze and downing a few pints at the "Dubliner" and Irish pub in the casino.

To top it off, I stopped at a craps table on the way out and won $38.00!!! Okay not big money but at least I walked out of a casino on the PLUS side.

So all in all, it was a pretty good day!!

CC,
Sounds like a good time.
Any time you walk away from the tables 'ahead', you're doing great. :D

Sounds like a great time! And congrats on the craps table. :)

Did you notice whether they have a poker room there?

Regards,

They closed the poker room last year :( . I heard it was for two reasons, #1 is that they make more money per sq ft with slot machines vs a poker room. The other interesting thing I heard was that there were problems with casino employees in the poker room runnings some kind of scams.

With the renewed interest in those televised poker tournaments (Foxwoods still has a poker room) I also heard that they might bring it back. Foxwoods is another Indian casino right down the road. I think Foxwoods is the largest casino in the world.

The World Poker Tour filmed at Foxwoods not too long ago.

Yes they did and the tournament was won by Howard Lederer :D

oh by the way...Thanks for the invite CC

You are correct. In fact most poker rooms were closing for that very reason. There has been a renewed interest in poker thanks to the TV coverage, but I think that interest will wane after some time, as most fashions do, and then the closings will resume.

That is why Los Angeles [Gardena area] is really the poker capital of the world. There is no other casino type gambling allowed out there except for cards, and the card rooms are huge in comparison to the small rooms we see at even the most swank of casinos in Las Vegas. The Gardena rooms have been there since the 1930's.

Poker takes "work" in order to pursue it as a worthwhile hobby, IMHO, just like golf or any other competitive pastime. Plus "the house" is not involved in the odds, but just takes a "rake", or sometimes an hourly rent per seat, and therefore less profit.

For recreational gamblers, other games of chance are actually more recreational and can be lots more fun. I especially like to see the women in low cut blouses jumping up and down at the craps tables with all the excitement. Every now and then a boob pops out, a free nipple shot! :D Hope you got to see one! :D

Glad you had fun.

Sorry Fast :( It was literally a last minute deal. I got my lazy a$$ out of bed that day around noon and opened a PM from Bubba saying they'd be there at 1:00 p.m.
These guys meet there every few months. Hopefully next time I'll have more advanced notice.
