I asked my B&M if next time he got Opus X in if he would sell me a box. He advised that he would have to get a premium price if he were to sell the whole box. He said he is getting a box of Perfecxion no. 5's. He normally charges about a dollar or 2 over msrp I imagine he will charge either 9 or 10 for these. What do you think would be a fair price for the whole box. What do you think would be too much?

Thoughts?

With the recent price increase on all Fuentes, including Opus $9 aint that bad.

I agree 9 or 10 is pretty good. I am saying what price of a premium do you think would be fair for the retailer but still worth it?

This is a vague answer I know, but it's a true one.

Whatever you're willing to pay and feel fine about it, is a good price. It just matters how much YOU want them.

I'd say that would be a real good deal. Where else are you going to get them? I watch boxes of Opus go for over $600 everyday on Yahoo, some way more.

edit to add: Those are some strong ass cigars. Hope you plan to age them a bit. The only cigar that can still knock me on my ass is the Opus #5.

If i get them they will probably not be touched for a year as I have about 10-12 opus singles laying around and they are not my everyday smoke (tatuaje red label or RP vintage). love them just can't smoke that beast every day as it kicks me in the face.

Very true!

$400-$450 for the box would put it in the $9.50 on the low end or $10.70 on the high end.

Also depends on what you pay with taxes.

There's a local B&M here on South Beach...they used to not really carry Opus X (mostly the other lines such as King B, Hemingway, etc.), but have now added an entire section of them, along with ESGs, etc.

Now this is a local guy that I know pretty damn well (and he's been damn generous in the past), and I haven't yet had the chance to talk to him about this to find out just what in the hell he is trying to pull, but he has the Double Coronoas and the Reservas (Opus) listed at....$47.00 per stick.

WTF???

The Opus Robusto are going for $29.00

Incidentally, ESGs are listed at $41.00 per stick.

I can't comprehend this. I left there disgusted and pissed, and without buying what I'd gone there to get. I've left the owner a voice mail on his cell to find out just what is up. NOWHERE else in this town do I know of these sticks commanding such prices. All my local haunts are right in line with MSRP, and, if higher, maybe just a few bucks so.

As quoted above...........They are worth whatever you are willing to pay for them. My local sells them at 11.95 a pop. May seem steep but when you consider sin tax, sales tax and the overhead most of these guys have to pay............Makes me not want to be a B&M. If you enjoy them buy them at whatever the cost that is reasonable to you.

Just got back from vegas. Even if I did hit it big at the casinos, I could never bring myself to spend more that $1k for a box of Opus.
I still can't believe how many boxes of Opus that town has but at crazy prices.

:0 That sucks, especially if it's a store you normally use and the rest of their prices are inline. My local had Sharks at $34, but he's pretty high with everything, but those Sharks were just way out of line.

A fair price for the B&M should be no more than $9.50 a stick and at 42 sticks this would be $399.00 for a full box. That is of course before taxes. I saw a full box and had them open it up so I could snag 4 Opus #5 so I could smoke some nice sticks with my friends over the weekend.

I agree with Alan and the others. These aren't super-hard-to-find, but it still takes some time to come across the rare B&M that isn't going to mark them up through the roof. Paying a dollar or two over MSRP (which is, by the way, Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) doesn't seem all that unreasonable. Boxes get gobbled up quick for good reason. And bless the B&M's that aren't gouging. I wouldn't wait too long to make a decision, because there's probably a long list of guys right behind you that will pay a buck or two over without hesitation. ;)

This is always the question isn't it. I think how much is too much depends on how much you want them. I know that's a screwy answer but that's the only one that matters. It depends on how much you like them and what your price point is on getting yourt mitts on box. Any answer I or anyone else gives you will be skewed by the amount each of us likes that particular cigar.
