Which Hoya de Monterrey Do I Have?

I do not know much about cigars.

I got this one for a friend of mine.

The front says Hoya de Moneterrey Habana. The band is black and gold. On the left side of the band it says Jose and the right side of the band it says Gener.

It is about 5 3/4 inches long.

Here is a picture.

Any help you can give me identifying would be great, I can't find another one with a band like this.

Is it spelled Hoya or Hoyo on the band?

It says Hoyo, not Hoya. My mistake. Hoyo de Monterrey Habana.

Is there a reason you believe this to be a Cuban cigar , other than having "Habana" on the band?

Although I am not familiar with the band, I would suspect this is General Cigar product, not a Habanos SA product.

I purchased it from a shop that I was told by several people was reputable in a country where you can purchase Cuban cigars. It may be a fake, that is a possibility. Even though this shop looked like a lot of the shops I've seen in the US, there is a chance that it is not genuine.

I bought some Monticristos from the same shop as well, I believe they were number 2s. The friend that I got them for said that Montecristos look authentic and tasted as he remembered and expected.

I appreciate the help, but I may have just got a couple of Monterrey Habana "tourist specials" :-]

That is most likely the case, as Habanos SA branded products & logos are well documented.
