Just purchased a scratch and dent Whynter BWR-33 for a long term conversion project.  I am not the most techinically gifted individual so I'm basically looking for best practice advise.

The unit looks great and I personally prefer a compressor unit that gets colder than a thermoelectic albeit with the need for more humidity control but allows me sto share space with some wine as well.

To start, what type of wood for the shelving? Spanish Cedar ? I've heard that Beech and Sapele are fairly popular as well. Any thoughts?

I believe, the more Spanish Cedar, the better.  Nothing smells better then when you first open the door and get the cigar / cedar aroma.   Plus the added benefit of infusion.  I really have no experience with other woods inside a humidor, I have completely lined the interior of my wine fridge with 3/8 Spanish Cedar except the back wall which is the cooling wall.  I believe in the humidification maintenance properties of the wood.  Have fun, and good luck.
