Does anyone here use Windows Media Center Edition?

I understand they are going to start selling it separately next month (aug), so soon there will be no need to buy a ready-made media pc... you'll be able to DIY with exactly what you want inside.

I've seen and played around with them a little, and it looks really nice. I've also seen and tried Snapstreams PVR (now called Beyond TV) which is one of the most cosmetically appealing computer PVR software titles I've ever seen. It didn't like my AIW card :( so I was forced to uninstall the software.

I recently bought a Hauppauge PVR250 card from CompUSA for $99, and I'm going to juice up the HTPC/MEDIA CENTER again- so I wanted some input from you guys.

From what I've read about Windows MCE is it captures in "DVR-MS" format, which is a Mpeg2 like format- basically it is mpeg2 but "wrapped" in some kind of DMCA protection crap. The major downside to this is, DVD authoring software (currently available anyway) don't support this micro$oft version mpeg2 DVR-MS format :( I know a few do but from what I've been reading the ones that do support it (3 I think) all stink, and this has got to be a blow for MCE users. One of the things I want to be able to do is A) archive shows I like, and maybe one of the main reasons for having a media center pc?- putting those home camcorder movies to dvd... PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

This may be a little off topic here? But since most of us are adults and computer enthusiasts- I thought I'd get some opinions from people I trust :)

Any input would be appreciated.

Making copies of others software is illegal plus, cuban cigar smoke isn't good for DVD burners. ;)
