The wife, 5 year old step-son and I are leaving tomorrow morning for the Dells. We're spending the week camping w/ her parents and I'm gonna need all the Xanax I can find  Wish me luck fellas.

Anyone know what I can expect to do in the Dells? I've heard it's the Branson of Wisconsin, but I'm hoping for a little more activities to do while there.

Let's see if Sir Smokes... chimes in. I think he's actually pretty close to there right now.

There should be lots to do with the 5 year old, as far as water parks etc. And it looks like you'll have some really good weather too!

Enjoy!

Lots to do at the Dells. The area is designated the winter home of the Barnum and Bailey circus. The town has a very carny feel to it.

Lots of water parks.
Lots of go-Kart tracks.
Several roller coasters.
Water tours in old Army surplus amphibious vehicles.
House in the rock.

Be forwarned, the place is a zoo in the summer.

Lots of water parks - very touristy... It's also the northern vacation getaway for the Chicago area gang bangers... Fortunately they are vastly outnumbered by decent folk, so they usually behave themselves (they just cause a lot of headaches for the local police up there with their wanting to party)

The natural scenery up there is incredible - camping ought to be nice, although it probably will be pretty crowded. It definitely is a kiddies paradise!!! There's plenty of entertainment for the them there, but you will not know where to start.. There's definitely no lack of things to do.... I think you'll find it very clean and nice (like Branson).

I wish I could help you with what to see and do, but the place changes so much... The big attractions USED to be the Tommy Bartlett Water Show and the "Ducks" (amphibious vehicles). I don't think they're as big as they used to be...

You are not that far from two of the areas top attractions, though - the Ringling Brothers Circus museum in Baraboo, WI. (Circus World Museum)and the House on the Rock (House on the Rock). Both are very much worth seeing if you get the time.

Thanks guys.

George.....we're driving to Rockford tomorrow to stay the night at the in-laws, then leaving Sunday morning. I might try and meet up w/ you guys when we get back. I'm not sure how far you and the other Chicago guys are from Rockford (I'm guessing about an hour or so), but if I'm able, I'd like to drive in to Chicago and meet up w/ a few of you. I had hoped to go to a Cubbies game again, but not sure if any of "my" plans will go this time around

You may experience adverse reactions mixing the Valium with your current prescription of Viagra Freebern. You better check with your pharmacist first ... :whistling:

Lol, damn you David. At least my wife will be happy ;) I won't be bitching and she will be...well nevermind.

I was just at the Dells in June. As mentioned, Noahs Ark and Mt. Olympus are probably the best spots to spend a day. Mt. Olympus also has an indoor waterpark in case the weather doesn't cooperate and a roller coaster that goes underground (underneath the parking lot actually) which is kinda cool. As mentioned, check the internet for coupons (dells.com is one site that has them), otherwise it gets expensive.

While in Rockford, you should have dinner at the Hoffman House. They have great prime rib and my brother Kurt is the head chef. They also have a sister restuaurant in the Dells, Ishnala, which is very good also. Ishnala sits right on a lake with part of the dining area actually hanging out over the lake.
