Any new music suggestions?

The newest Vampire Weekend album has been in my rotation.  Pretty good stuff.  Lots of Ray Lamontagne, Alabama Shakes, Bonnie Prince Billy, and My Morning Jacket seem to have made it in as well.  I must be in some sort of mood.

I have been listening to Phil Anselmo quite a bit lately.  Of course he is great music for Halloween.  The Agonist has been in heavy rotation too.  But, when I am in the mood for something less confrontational, I have been reaching for Fitz & the Tantrums or The Editors.  I do have to agree with -Boar- that the Decemberists are always a good choice...quality lyrics are sometimes too hard to find.

The new Arcade Fire is excellent.

Is it?  I had some trouble getting into their last album honestly.  I never saw what the fuss was all about.  I'll have a listen though and see what I think.

If you didn't like The Suburbs, you may not like this either, but it does have a different feel.  It was produced by James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem.

I saw Gary Clark, Jr. over the weekend on an guitar showcase show.  He blew me away with his guitar so I picked up both his albums.  Now I saw he was nominated for a Grammy.  I need to keep my ears more open.  There's still some good music being made these days.

Always said I would not pay for radio, then they sucked me in with a free promotional offering and I have never left.

All I know is that I'm tired of Lorde or however she spells her name.

LPs I've recently bought and recommend:

Rosanne Cash, The River and the Thread
Ry Cooder, Live in San Francisco
Townes Van Zandt, The Late Great Townes Van Zandt. (reissue)
Bob Dylan, Love and Theft (EU reissue), Finjan Club, Freewheelin' Outtakes

Hell yes.  I can't stand her stuff.

Haha.  Agreed.  I haven't heard her 'album', but I do not see what the big deal is with that Royals song.  If that is song of the year, we have hit a low.  I've been listening to the Downward Spiral a bit lately.  That album will be 20 years old in a month.  Do any of you remember the crazy rotation Closer got on MTV?  They played that video every half hour.  The song was on pop radio, it was in clubs, it was everywhere.  And that song is scary as f.ck.  I don't care who you are.  Sheer genius.  Oh, and no awards.  Ha.

Just because this topic came back up....pretty unrelated to Mumford, but I'm really digging this group called Alt-J right now. Another indie find thanks to WEQX.

One cannot go wrong with Townes.

I've been stuck on Michael Andrews' newer album, Foxygen (especially if you like the classic San Fran psychedelic sound), the new Phosphorescent, and the ever obscure Trappers Cabin albums.

Went to three music festivals this year: Mountain Jam(NY) / Gathering of the VIbes (CT) / Lockn Festival (VA)

Always a fan of Tedeschi Trucks Band - would not miss them but for only a couple other major acts.

There's a 'techno/funk' side (I really really like good techno/funk)....that folks don't know about - until now.
The group Lettuce was a high point. I'd check them out again.

Always love the blues...and was turned onto Gary Clark Jr. - even saw him play a 30 minute set in VA (super VIP)....there were maybe 60 folks in this tent....and he wailed!!!
Another one I would attempt to see....he can rock!

If you're a Beatles' fan and can't afford to buy the Parlaphone originals, (who the hell can) I can highly recommend this, sourced from the original mono analog tapes, re-issue. It's not cheap at around $ 375, but a set of originals would cost you thousands, if you could find them.
