Any new music suggestions?

I got turned on to The Mountain Goats when they closed an episode of Walking Dead with this song last season:

. . . and every time I check out another song of theirs on YouTube it ends up blowing me away.  Raw, brutally honest, painfully true lyrics.  Not sure I could sit through a whole CD without slitting my wrists, though.

For some reason I am into Imagine Dragons right now....
In line with this thinking.... But I'll buck the country, blues trend in here.... I like gangsta rap..

Probably the best album I've listed to in quite some time is Kendrick Lamar (good kid maad city)

Probably my favorite performance ever....

Hmmm... ever heard of Gangstagrass?  They do the "Justified" theme song.
I saw them at Rhythm & Roots Festival last month... kinda of a different spin on bluegrass.

I've been stuck on Whitey Morgan and the 78's since a friend suggested it. Real country music... Not pop country.

I'm also a big fan of Justin Townes Earle. I've listened to him for some time, but only saw him live once a few years ago. For my upcoming birthday, the wifey has already gotten me tickets to see him again. I can't wait!

Does JTE do the whole performance solo acoustic or does he have a backing band?  I really dig this.  Thanks for sharing it.

I've been spending some time seeking out covers of a lot of music from my favorite artists. Dylan is my favorite to do this sort of thing with. Sometimes, you really find a gem.

He's done full band a few tours. I saw him 2 years ago and it was he and a guy playing electric guitar. That was only for about 15% of the show. The rest of the show was all solo acoustic.

If you like that video, I believe the majority of that set is on YouTube. If I remember, it was done in a library or something? Also fun to watch was the NPR tiny desk concert.

Also, not sure if you know this... JTE is Steve Earl's son. He's battled quite a bit in his life with alcohol and other demons. He's seemed to be pretty straight for the last couple of years thankfully. I think he's incredibly talented myself.

That Justin Townes Earle vid is far out as we used to say back in the day. I'll be going to the B&M record store tomorrow to find some of his stuff.

I wish I could get all my favorite songs done solo/acoustic. He has a full band in many of his albums. That said, my favorites are The Good Life, Yuma, and Single Mothers (in that order). I hope whatever you find though, you enjoy.

Success! I picked up three of his vinyl LPs today. "Nothings Going to Change the Way You Feel About Me Now", "Single Mothers" and his latest "Absent Fathers". I'll listen to them as soon as I can run them through the record cleaning machine.
